Driver's door does not sound right ...

I am about to take my 8 in for it's 8,000 km check. When I shut the driver's door, it does not have that tight, solid sound you would expect with a new car.

Instead, it almost sounds as if the glass or glass channel in the door might be lose.

The window / door does not rattle at all, however, if the window is wet and you roll it down, the plastic scraper in the door does not " squeegee " the window like any other car I have had.

Has anyone else noticed this?

No. Is it convenient for you to go to a dealer and check out some RX-8s on their lot to see if they do the same thing?

Mine is the same way. I think something is loose in there. When my car goes in for the recalls I'm giving them a list of things to fix/replace.

In my situation my door shut fine before I added the veilside skirts but had to trim down the fiberglass lip just under the door due to rubbing from the skirt lip height because it would not close completely even tho I riveted the skirts down correctly.but thats due to the add on skirt. other than that it must be an adjustment issue.

It closes fine. Just sounds like something loose in the door. Not a solid sound.

Yea my passenger side door sounds solid, yet my drivers side has a rattle to it when I close it, and I think I have found that it is the outside mirror. If I close the door and hold the mirror at the same time it sounds fine, yet if I don't it rattles.

I second the mirror comment.. pretty sure thats where the sound comes from. It might be that flat plastic piece that the mirror sits on rattling. No idea how to get it to stop tho..

Dental floss/ RX 8 Mirrors

The mirrors- especially Drivers side, do tend to cause noise, between the black plstic, and body. I inserted a strip of dental floss, doulblw width, and it has made an invisible fix.

In my car, the plastic cover was a bit loose and rattled loudly when the driver's door was slammed....I hadn't seen this floss tip, but another 1 minute fix that worked for me is to lay a thin stream of superglue (Loctite gel) along the gap, pulling the plastic cover back. Then hold the cover forward gently to set the glue and wipe any excess.

I got rid of mine!

I got rid of my 2004 RX-8 last fall and overall, it was not my best experience or my wisest purchase. From the very beginning, the car did not have a tight, solid feel you get from a well built car.

My 3-year old Audi A4 (winter car) was as tight as a drum inside, the driver door on my RX-8 rattled from day one no matter what they tried to do to fix it. The stereo speaker would hit certain bass notes and the door would resonate like an orchestra.

My dealer warranted squeaks and rattle for one year. It was not too long before the dash developed rattles and vinyl squeaks and the cables and tracks in the sunroof started to vibrate. The car was fun to drive, but I did not get good value for my money.

When I went to sell it, I was shocked at how little value it held. I saw the auctions sheets. The car was $38,795 (CDN) new on the dealer’s lot in September 2004. I bought it in May 2005 for $35,500 and added extended warranty for $1,700. I had Mazda replace the tires twice because so was so much variance in the alignment specs, you could not set it correctly. In both cased, the tires developed 'cupping' which in my opinion is a design flaw in the suspension geometry - the tires were rotate every 4000Km.

The auction price on the vehicle was $16,000 September 2008. The types of cars I am looking for now would be a Mercedes C350 or another Audi A4. If I had known German cars had the quality they do, I would have stayed away from Mazda products a long time ago.

Ironically, the best way to get my money out of my RX-8 was to trade it in on a CX-7 for my wife. I am still driving my Audi which was supposed to be my winter beater when I had my RX-8 in winter storage.
