Yeh, I got a 6 spd AT and I redline it in manual mode. Pretty fun.. Our RPM's end at 9000 btw.

your tach end at 9k or 10k like th MT, I don't mean redline just the tach?

I said it ends at 9K. Heh. Although, everyone thinks the 6spd auto has a higher rpm meter. And redline than from the 4spd. It's the same. Just has more power I guess?!

9K in an A/T?

I wouldn't do that very much! The ECU will almost certainly record that the engine was last doing 9K just before they loaded onto a flatbed due to a blown tranny.

I'm curious about this from a technical perspective: I thought that the A/T models aren't equiped with the 3rd stage intake system which allows the engine to run up into the high RPMs. That's why the A/T engine is only rated at 210 HP or so, right?

Considering that 6th gear=20mph/1000rpm (or thereabouts), it seems to me that 4700rpm would be more like 95, not 85-90. The speeds you mention should equate to something at or under 4500rpm.

06 and newer ATs have the 3rd stage intake system you are talking about. They have the same 6 port engine as the MTs, just with a lower redline due to the transmission being able to handle less rpms. The engines are identical.

04 and 05 ATs have the 4-port engine you are speaking of.

2000 to 2003 S2K models had a 2.0L with a 8800 redline and 9000rpm fuel cut

2004 and newer S2Ks have a 2.2L with a 8000 redline and 8200rpm fuel cut

There is at least that much error on the tach readout ......

Honda, response to everyone complaining about the lack of torque, increased the displacement and retuned it for a more bottom end. In the process they had to drop the redline.

The only problem with driving 85 - 90 mph is you **** away gasoline and increase tire wear. But if those two reprecussions are okay with you and you can avoid cops and collisions, have fun.

Don't take me the wrong way. As per your disclaimer, you've been flamed before and "tone" is hard to decipher online so don't get defensive, but, you answered your own question. 4.7k a la rotary would be the "equivalent" to 3k a la piston, if there could be made such an "equivalent." One turn of a rotor, 360 degrees, is about (and a very rough about) 1/3 of a "conventional" engine rotation. That and there is no "harsh" and "jarring" motion in a rotorary engine such as in a piston engine. The piston engines have to convert "up and down" motion into a rotation while rotors already spin. That is why the engine (rotary) feels so smooth, not unlike an electrical engine.

In sum, you car, our car, can handle 90mph cruising speeds....

I make a 270 mile trip from Shreveport LA to Baton Rouge LA quite often and I must say usually about 2 1/2 hours into the trip after driving 80-85 the whole way the engine feels tired and less powerful than when the trip started. It feels like it's hurting for power at that point. The first time I made the trip I burned up the ignition coils at about the 250 mile point.

Then again, it could be just because it's run like that constantly for a long period of time. I would be tired too. But, my Silverado with a 4.8L V8 never felt like that after the trip.

wasn't it just about a week ago you were polling everyone to figure out if you should premix? i'm not saying to premix or not but it's just funny that you would suddenly think to offer that up as advice when you weren't that sure of it yourself just a couple weeks ago.

Yes, driving 85-90 is damaging to the Renesis. You'll get the car impounded and some smuck will take it for a drive.

Yep. How many of us actually keep it at 9K all the time ? None.

and How many of us actually keep it Above 5K all the itme ? Hardly

How many of us actually baby the car ? say Under 4K rpm. ALOT !

Im somewhere between the first 2. Alot of 9K sometimes gonna hold it for a few minutes then back off. Yes I feel pain when I do my fill-ups. but hey. I feel happy when I do 9K.

unless your on the road course, then i'll say 100% of those drivers on the track keep up the rpms.


BTW IMO, going fast in the RX-8 isnt as fun as taking turns and manuvering it around things
