Look at the transmissions in F-1 cars -- those are insane.
Theyre paddle-shift style gearboxes, but switch gears insanely fast.
Were going to see technology used in F1 and champ races come to consumer cars soon, like always.
A human cannot possibly shift as fast as a computer controlled transmission anymore, but it will take time for the paddleshift gearboxes to get the finnesse of a human.

F-1 engines and transmissions usualy only last 1 or 2 races before they need to be totaly rebuilt, so they aren't exactly street ready

most race trannies aren't even sychronized so that they can shift faster, they don't have to last too long either, and it takes an expert driver to be able to shift them.
don't get me wrong, I think that SMGs are great for race driving where your hands don't have to leave the wheel, but for street use over an automatic... no advantage, for your average driver who can and wants to drive a manual instead of an automatic, no advantage.
