Agreed. It isn't that the auto transmission makes the car extra slow (which it does), it's that it's totally at odds with the engine's main characteristics: LOTS of revs and the ability to handle being high up there for a long time. If you restrict the thing to 7500, you might as well use an inline 4 for all the good it does. Completely neuters the car.

that teamed with the fact that it's low TQ down low...mostly where an AT resides...wouldn't make it all that responsive or fun IMO.

oh yea...and 9K. Your missing the last (and more entertaining) 2K of the powerband!
Interesting point........!!!

Guess the standard 4AT behind my 20B-REW Cosmo tackling a measly 500NM of torque at 3500rpm is really missing the most entertaining part of the rotary engines powerband.

That's why you use the paddle shifters, to keep the revs up.

I'm sure the 6MT is more entertaining. But the 4AT is fun too. It would be more fun if the gearing wasn't so tall. Hopefully the 4.77 rear end will help some with that.

Of course my previous vehicle was a full sized pickup - so my fun to drive threshold is probably a lot lower than some of yours

I guess I don't understand how you can even compare your Cosmo to any RX-* car. You've got a 13 year old car with bigger displacement and more power.

Yay.

Hey everybody this guy has a Cosmo... I think he's only mentioned it a few times now just in this thread.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

DMRH Owns a Cosmo... Just in case you didn't read that already in this thread and in his signature every time he posts...

Bow down to 3 rotors of tire scroching madness...

500nM Torque OMG... On SUNDAYYY SUNDAYYY SUNDAYYYYYYYYY

OMFG A Cosmo...

What...a Cosmo...OMG my dong is hard...

Well to be more measured: I think what we could say is just because you have another car does nothing to detract or defend the AT RX-8. It does nothing.

When people say things like "you're missing out..." I don't believe they mean your missing out on firing a machine gun or rescuing a damsel or delivering a baby. They mean, I suspect, you're missing out on an RX-8 with more power and happy-fun shifting-ness.

That said, those with FI might say the same to all of us.

The OP drove the AT for the first time and it felt sluggish compared to his MT RX-8. That is all.

^(the Sundayyy Sundayyy Sundayyyyy part was a nice touch)

yea the fun part about the renesis is the high RPMs. Get a Mustang if you want torque.

Dont get me wrong. I love my 8, reminds me of my 71 240Z & plan to keep it. Sure the MT 8 has more power but after driving the two I opted for the AT.

i think this is the first time swoope has ever been called a troll...or a turd...you have got yourself into some **** now silver surfer...better call gallactus.

AT owners get better gas mileage than us. we're "missing out" on the extra 33 miles we could've driven per tank. that's one trip to my favorite strip club by the way.

um, a 20B-REW is HARDLY equivalent in comparison to the 13B Renesis (NA mind you) found in the 8.

That's about as intelligent as comparing a Honda's 4-banger TQ to that of a Viper's V10. If I were talking about the general charictoristics of ANY auto you could find, you might have a valid argument. However, on the topic at hands...it fails. The focus isn't automatic transmissions in general. It's in the 8, with a 4AT, 13B 2-rotor NA STOCK engine. Not a freaking 3-rotor, turbocharged rotary engine.

What the heck...I mean, apples to oranges, dude.

Dude, the way I interpret what you have posted is as if you are unfamiliar with the auot trans rotary plus the fact that the rotary engine has poor torque. Was mearly pointing out (sarcastically) that where the 13B-MSP lacks, the 20B-REW excells at & thats mid range punch well suited to an auto transmission.

Since you mentioned the word "Rotary" in its generic sense it appears that you where implying the engine in general.

I'm not really sure how you drew the conclusion that I don't have an understanding of the auto trans rotary OR that the rotary has poor torque...my last post didn't even really touch on that. As a matter of fact, take a look at my post a few back...it even furthers to eleborate on WHY you have to run up the revs on the auto. Any why's that? Because it doesn't make much TQ. Are we through with chasing our tail yet?

and ironically so, most rotary engines make far less TQ then HP. Most, I say.

And i'm glad to hear that a Cosmo with a 20B-REW can make so much power. What kinda milage you gettin with that? about 12?

Anyway, I guess i'm done unloading. Hope you don't take it wrong
