If it were possible to simply reroute the oil through the front cover people would do that and not buy a sohn.

To do it you would have to stop the flow of engine oil to it. Then add a connection in the middle of your hoses and pulleys to run a hose to.

Wow! You don't have to be a dick, just make a reasonable counterargument! If you have access to useable data on OMP failure rates using two stroke vs used oil I'll gladly accept it.

Wow ..... why do you want to split hairs when you were presented with compelling logic ?

Your question above makes little sense and suggests you don't actually know how the system works.

But to attempt to answer it I would say ...yes you can draw from a container of fresh oil using a device that bolts onto the omp . As it happens such a device is readily available ................but you knew that .

I keep saying that in a number of places that he is asking this question.

He is trying to figure out how to create his own custom SOHN adapter by figuring out how to block off the crankcase oil feed and supply a different oil feed instead. Which is all the SOHN does, but he doesn't want to do it that way, because it's too simple. I think he is looking to figure out how to deal with hose routing and other complications, probably at higher cost, because that way there won't be anything in between the OMP and the engine. Presumably the addition of a dozen or more failure points is better than the addition of none.

He is then challenging the reliability of a milled block of aluminum, and challenging that the OMP will experience a higher failure rate for pulling clean 2 stroke oil through it instead of gummy deposit filled 4-stroke.

I personally don't understand him in the least, but if he wants to go make his own setup, he is more than welcome to do so.

My 2010 RX8 with 44,000 miles has started to get much worse gas mileage...any help?

Hello all,

Bone stock, regular oil changes and new tires ( stock size continental rain and dry ).

I used to get 200 + miles per tank and now I am under 175 miles per tank.
I use chevron high octane ( i think it is 91 ) usually.

I LOVE this car and have had it from new but I am worried that this is some sign of impending doom...

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Yogi

You're still under the 8 year/100k warranty! Get a new engine in that thing (and check all the normal stuff, ignition, fuel pump, cat, etc)!

Well, you should ALWAYS use premium, not 'usually'.
What do you call a full tank?
I never let mine get below 1/4 tank, so my fillup is usually 3/4 of a tank.
You should not allow your fuel level to habitually get below 1/4 tank so that the fuel pump doesn't overheat, or get in the situation where you get fuel starvation in hard left turns that could possibly damage your engine.
My 8 is well maintained by me, and I average about 14 mpg driving very enthusiastically.

Sounds like your ignition/spark plugs need a refreshing.

I would consider:
*New air filter?
*New Spark plugs
*New plug wires.
*Closely inspect the cat
*A quality fuel injector/system cleaner.
*Clean MAF sensor.

Car is 2009 GT. The bluetooth button on the steering wheel (the one to activate hands-free) stopped working. I haven't used it in a while but it did work at one time.

Googled it and tried pulling audio fuses and disconnecting the battery but neither fixed this.

There's a TSB on it, but the car is out of warranty, so is this going to be costly?

I tried to post a new thread on this but didn't have "permissions" for some reason so this seem next appropriate place.

Thanks.

How many miles? A 2009 should still be under warranty.

Lol, sorry! That was stupid. I think the dealership is your best bet, but you could look around Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 forums, the interior components are generally electrically similar.

Starters

I think I am still running the old N3H1 starter in my 04 ... Does anyone know how long that starter is compared to the N3Z1 upgraded starter ..
From watch utube ...mine sounds like the old starter N3h1
I jacked her up and slide under her did not see any numbers or tags on starter but it looks like the old ones ...
Does anyone know how long the old N3H1 starter is ??? How long the new N3Z1 one is ???

So here's another dumb question. Does putting new coolant in REALLY lower engine temps? Or is it just another myth :P

things are hot, one of the reason can be old coolant. It could be thick, carrying a lot of crud, or allowing corrosion. All of those can reduce flow and lead to higher temps.

But, you cannot lower it below the thermostat value. I flush and replace every 4 or 5 years, some do it more often.

If it is running hot, there are several options. But, first, it is good to know the coolant is in good shape.

My car isn't running too hot. It hits 215F in stop go traffic here (90F ambient temps), and I hear that's pretty normal for these cars.

I just asked because I really didn't know how it lowered the temps Old coolant getting thick, reducing flow seems like a good enough explanation Thanks.

I am not trying to reinvent the sohn i was simply asking if i could not use the sohn and just plug the line the omp draws from and put it so it draws from a seperate container thats all.Remember this is the ddumb question section isn't it?.By the way the fact that there isa dumb question section is testiment to the fact that remarks that tend to be little a person does exist. my gas mileage is dropping at 43K miles, any ideas

Hello everyone,

I love my car and it has received dealer maintenence since I bought it new in 2010.

I drive it daily and I try to hit redline getting on the freeway once a day.

I used to get over 200 miles on a tank and now I am getting under 180 miles on a tank of gas. Same gas station.

I did change tires a few months ago. I went with continental dry and wet, stock size.

Any ideas would be greatley appreciated!
Cheers to a great drive,
Yogi

Replace your ignition and clean everything that's in 04Green's $100 thread. The ignition coils tend to go out at that milage.

You could also consider getting the BHR or similar ignition.

This phrase is usually a bad sign. "Dealer maintenance" is only what you tell them to do, and usually it is only oil changes. For example, I bet that you haven't been paying $1,100-$1,600 for ignition replacements every 30,000 miles at a dealer (which is the grossly overinflated price they tend to charge). There is a lot of other maintenance that is very important to the RX-8, and people that assume that the dealer is handling it all usually end up running their RX-8 to death because they ignored everything else, even if just because they didn't know better.
