Hi is there a DIY thread on changing the Cat ?searched but can't find one/ Looks pretty easy to be honest but wouldn't mind some further reading before i jump in. As emissions were high at last MOT and car sounds a bit raspy

I don't think I ever found one. Though I found the job surprisingly easy. 3 bolts on the front, 2 on the back. Bring a breaker bar and make sure you buy some replacement gaskets before hand.
Hardest part was taking the exhaust hangar off.

What he said. Also buy some Seafoam Deep Creep and soak the bolts with that a couple times an hour or so before you attempt to remove them. Spray the hanger grommets with WD-40 first and it will make it MUCH easier to pull the hangers out of them.

So, on the front brake calipers, the bolts that go into the slider pins/sleeves:
On the driver's side, I can tighten and loosen the bolts all day without holding the sleeves in place. On the passenger's side, I have to hold the sleeves in place or they spin with the bolts. All sleeves slide in and out as they should, more or less.
Which side is messed up, and how do I fix it?

Knocking after brake rotor replacement
Just changed my front rotors, rebuilt calipers, and brake pads. Drove it and now I have a knocking coming from I believe the front right wheel well. It happens when I turn the steering wheel right, then left. You get the knock.
Took wheel back off and checked all my bolts. Everything was tight. What could this be related to? The rotors that came off only had 1 retaining screw in one rotor, and zero in the other side. So I took out the retaining screw on this side, too.
I rebuilt the whole caliper except the piston rings. Another note was that the anti rattle sleeves that go on those bottom pins were about half the size as the ones that came off. Could this be the problem? Setting the brakes didn't seem to have any problem. It wasn't until I drove it hard the second time around a few corners to test the brake difference from the previous rotors and pads. Now it is knocking.
Ideas?

Can I premix after 13,000 miles
I have a 2009 8 with 13,000 miles reman, I've had a couple 7s and I've done much research, the third oil injector seems to work well I drive it hard, only after she's nice and warm and it definitely consumes oil, I never let lose more than a half quart at a time.....so my question I've been told by many the r3 really doesn't need premix but a small amount can't hurt, maybe 3-4 oz per tank, is it too late to start mixing? I have put about 4K on it, I do not know what the previous owner was doing for the first 9k but he blew up the first engine way too soon

///// Upscale Zoom-Zoom
I run 0.25 oz. per gallon for normal daily driving as insurance on my 2010 GT. I run 0.5 oz/US gallon on spirited driving days. Use only JASO rated 2-stroke (JASO FC or FD). Lucas 2-stroke semi-syn or Mystik JT4 (snow and sea) JASO FD are two choices.

Are you sure you didn't get the pins mixed up?

Guys I got a letter in the mail today from something like AutoAirbagSettlement.com saying "I may be entitled to payment" over this Takata airbag recall nonsense. This seems like some ambulance chaser scheme and I wanted to k now if anybody else got a similar letter.

I did, too. Basically, you are correct. And you will have to prove some kind of injury or problem that the airbag has caused in order for you to be eligible for the "money." I'd just ignore it. Just some punkass lawyer trying to profit. You won't even see 10% of any earnings even if you did get into an accident and have a problem.

I went to the website for the hell of it. I think you're confusing two different lawsuits. There was the takata settlement itself. In which $150 million was allocated as restitution for injuries caused by the airbags. Then there is a class action lawsuit against the vehicle manufacturers which is mostly seeking damages in regard to the value of their vehicles. They even explicitly state in big bold text that this is not for compensation due to injuries.
Bump!

Use good 2-stroke oil. Or else you get ash. Ash is bad.

My rear driver side brake caliper is sticking (right hand drive) I mean i could feel the heat radiating from it after i parked up. Is this a common thing on the RX8? My problem is the previous owner didn't have the key for the locking wheel nuts so can't just quickly remove the wheel and give caliper a good clean.

You might try contacting your nearest Mazda dealer with your VIN for a replacement wheel lock.

I know this probably isn't much help, but are you 100% sure you didn't mix up the bolts for the calipers?

Looks like the bolts were in the correct spot, yes.
