i just had a greddy turbo kit installed on my rx8 it runs perfect except when at a dead stop. The car idles at 500rpm is there a way to increase the rpm so i don't stall? I have to keep my foot on the gas and idle at 1000. I did do a cobb access port and am waiting to here back from jeff. This will be the fourth tune with him is that something you fix with the access port
Can you provide a more complete history of ownership, maintenance and upgrades please?

What could be the reason for the starter to kick in about a second after the key is turned?
No issues to start at all, it just seems as if there was a delay from the time I turn the key until I hear the starter running.
I actually hear the clicking sound when I turn the key, but the starter *starts* 1 second later. Also only happens when cold.

You hear the clicking and that's it, but it only does it once or twice, after that it cranks and starts right away.

Cuttincorners, thanks for the laugh, I near cracked up at your diagnoses of oil getting thick. Javi, check all of your connection's connected to the starter and battery, and the starter relay. And, its possible the contacts within the starter are dirty.

First, do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the forum. Finding this thread alone indicates that you have searched. Now, read the stickies in the tech, discussions, modifying and purchasing forums to get most out of your research. Your question alone is very difficult to answer in just one paragraph.
Also, it is against forum rules to talk about street racing.

I think I've seen it in one of the 10 million power steering threads, but It'll be impossible to find this specific answer.
When replacing the PCM (Powersteering Control Module) does it have to be taken to a mazda dealership or does the simple full right-full left will do the trick to reset it?

so this is in fact a stupid question...but:
since they stopped production of the RX8, can you still get an engine rebuild if you fail compression numbers?
where would you get one and how much would it cost?

At the dealer if you are inside the 8 yr 100K miles warranty, have maintenance records and show up with a stock engine...
After warranty you'll still be able to get parts and rebuilds from aftermarket companies for decades to come.
Check out the guys driving decades old RX-7s and ask them where they source parts...

Ok, fairly new to the forums (lurked a little when I first bought the car).
I have had my 2004 Rx8 for about 2 years now, love the car quite a lot. Took it in to get something checked out that is under warranty (Carmax extended). The car failed its compression test. (has 111k miles bought it at 77k)
Question is, when I get a new motor (the 'inspector' is going to the shop tomorrow), what sort of steps are the most accepted to make the motor last as long as possible? I have heard a couple things.
-Premixing?
-10w30 oil? Synthetic?
- I red-line at least once a day, so no problems there.
- I am borderline religious on oil changes and other maintenance, so again, no worries.
Just looking for some of the most popular opinions/facts, I just want to be able to drive this car for a LONG time. Any help or advice would be great.

You will get a lot of different opinions from a lot of different people. Personally this is what I have done and you will find others to agree/disagree with anything anyone says regarding engine longevity.
1. Sohn adapter - BHR and many others swear by this
2. Increase OMP output via Accessport
3. Run a good quality synthetic - I personally use nothing but Mobil 1 0W40.
4. Cooling fan adjustment via Accessport or other means
5. Use a good quality premix - I prefer Idemitsu or Protek
6. A properly functioning cooling system - I'd recommend getting a Mazmart waterpump and t-stat.
7. Regular maintenance coils, plugs, etc.

I believe reliability comes from
Access Port
Lower fan turn on
Higher OMP settings
Data logging and tuning
Sohn Adaptor enables
Synthetic 2-stroke oil for the seals
0W40 synthetic for the internals
BHR ignition
Say goodbye to changing coils with this quality kit
Gauges
Water temp, Oil temp Oil pressure to monitor the engine and head off issues.
Drivetrain synthetic
Redline MT-90 GL4 for trans, Redline 75W90 GL5 for diff
Comments
Lower T-stat not required because the lower fan turn on keeps temperatures under control, at least in my area.
Higher capacity radiator is a better solution than a lower temp T-stat IMHO
Premix not required if you have Sohn and AP OMP settings

Post #9 in the first of the two threads linked there has a list of reasons our engine fails, and what you can do to address each of those failure points to improve your chances.

Wanting to race
so just bought an 04 rx-8 know nothing about the car expect what the kid said
wanting to know about racing its stock except for a.e.m. cold air inake and magnaflow exhaust. the kid said to only go 20 in first. is that right? second is where all the power would come from, i dont know that just seems weird maybe im wrong someone help.

I am asking how to increase longevity. I have said nothing to CarMax about redlining or anything of the sort. I have pretty consistent oil change records using 5W20 conventional oil. No worries there.
Thanks for all the links! Looks like I will have to start saving for a Accessport....And a sohn adaptor....and a BHR kit....

The money spent has benefits outside of reliability of course.

If you really want to know about modding the car, there are pinned topics that explain what works, what doesn't and what to expect it to cost. Start there and decide.

how do you move the seats forward back? Seriously...
I'm not talking about tilting them back...there is a little triangle lever for that...I am talking about moving them on the rollers they are set on(they have those right?) that most cars have where you can move the entire seat, not just the seat recline, but the thing that lets you move the seat forward without reclining or declining it so that your hommies can sit in the back seat...this must be possible otherwise there is no way anyone can fit back their! where is the roller button located in the 06 GT model? the one with the leather heated seats and sunroof model if that helps.

Big bar across the front of each seat.
Pretty sure the '06 has a little foot pedal by the center tunnel that also moves the seat ahead.
(No flaming allowed - hadn't realised just how difficult that is, until now.......)

^^^thanks brosef for the tip, much appreciated. would "rep" you if we were on BB.com.
Anyways...I've got another question: is there any way to disable the "beeps" that tell you when to shift. I know how to drive and don't feel like I need them...anyone try?

It means you should shift soon. Maybe you should heed its warning? Driving like that, that often probably rates you what 8-10mpg? Are you sure you know how to drive an 8? Where your power curve starts dropping off is before the beep so you should change gears right before that beep to keep more power. How old are you again?
