No known method of defeating it. I don't feel comfortable without it. The car can pull more lateral g than you can hold against, seatbelt helps keep you in place.
And not wearing one is quite stupid.

is there any way to disable the no seatbelt beep? I dont like wearing mine. If I can't do that Im thinking about buying a seat belt clip to put into the thing so it doesn't make the sound. I hate the way the seatbelt feels in this car. It just wraps around your lower intestine, its terrible.
I agree it is pretty stupid to not wear it but it is your choice. I don't even think it should be illegal, if someone wants to not wear one and knows they probably wont survive a bad crash then that's their choice.

heres how it goes, if you want racing belts, you need a racing seat, if you get a racing seat you need a cage/roll bar, a cage/rollbar so you dont break your spine if the car flips. with a cage/rollbar the backseat becomes obsolete. If you have all of these things, you need to STRAP YOURSELF IN. like really strap in.
Imagine tying your shoe, to the point where its uber tight. When properly straped in with a racing belt and seat with a cage/rollbar you shouldnt be able to wiggle around, you shouldnt even be able to reach the stereo. You should be able to just reach what you can.
Sit in your car with your back against the cushon and move your hands around without moving your back/leaning forward. This is what being straped in feels like.
How do you plan on reversing? parallel parking? goodluck with that one lol.
If you dont like the loose oem belt, you will despise the racing belt, or you wont strap yourself in correctly and you risk being killed anyway, so why waste all of your money, just dont wear the oem belt if you dont want to.

New owner, upgrade help?
So I just bought a 2005 Rx8 only 47,00 miles and I am pretty new to all of this, but I would love to do some upgrades. I have been searching all through this site and have found tons of things people say I HAVE to do but I just don't even know where to start. I am looking to increase my 0-60 and if possible get a bit better gas mileage. But I want to know what order to start doing things in. What do you guys think I should start with? I was thinking at some point I should get a short shifter, get the BHR ignition upgrade, maybe a midpipe or catback. What other things are there that are more important that I should start with first? Love the car, any opinions would help, thanks!

The most important thing to start with on this car before you start modifying is MAINTENANCE. Coils, coils, coils. Start with that BHR ignition if you wish. But be warned, without forced induction you will not make much more power. Enjoy the curves.

Aside from that, a performance air filter is a cheap first mod. K&M or Green makes a good RX8 air filter that can be washed and re-used. They cost about a hundred bucks.

Coils, Plugs, Wires. If you are at 46k and have never replaced then they are due. Do them yourself to save money and buy the OEM ones. RIWWP has an example in his sticky of a dude who gained 30hp BACK that he should have had but didn't, because his ignition system was terrible. It also improves gas mileage as well.

Well in shelldudes thread it shows a gain of 27hp, 172 to 199, which is nearly 30 hp.

Original Turbo 'd Auto !!
Check the door jamb sticker on the drivers door. should be there.

I've been filling 2.5bar on all 4 tires the last 5 years. Seems perfect for me.

to add on to my seatbelt question about removing the seatbelt, I wondered if I rigged it somehow to where I could simply wear the over the chest belt, because its the lower over the stomach one that I hate. I thought I would accomplish this by basically cutting the seatbelt in half, then re-attaching it to the clip so that it would simply by an over the chest belt.
What I'm wondering is this: will the seatbelt still function/tighten in a collision without the lower part of it being attached? Will it still work, in other words.

It will probably be better than nothing. There is a reason they have the lap belt part though, and you really should be using it. The shoulder belt is going to help you not slam your head into the wheel in an accident and the lap belt should help keep you planted in the seat.
Not sure about modifying it as that is not something you usually see people do.

At 50 mph hitting the steering wheel generates about 40 times more force than having a seat belt on as your body continues to accelerate while the car has suddenly stopped. Hitting your chest on the wheel that hard is more than enough to stop your heart instantly.
Just sayin'.

Agreed, several friends with various cars have used K&N filters, they do nothing more than keep anything bigger than a bread box out of your system, sure, unrestricted airflow would be nice, not sandblasting a rotor would be better.
