Dyno my 8?
Ok so I want to get my 8 on a dyno because I really don't think its anywhere near 200HP. Its got 66K miles on it and I just looked up the service history and the engine has been replaced before.
If its low and I mean low like 120 to 150HP will the extended 100,000 warranty cover this kind of work. My end goal is to get the engine redone or tuned so it pushes somemore power.
What kind of places will dyno a car and how much dose it normally cost?

Dynos are everywhere
3 pulls can be had for about $50
My bone stock 8 put down 169 on a hot day, and 176 on at another dyno day.
So if you are stock, that will give you a starting point

Rarely do you get anything from a dealership because a dyno is low. They'll check the compression. Of course, you do any aftermarket work and can kiss the warranty good bye.
A couple of dyno runs usually cost between $60 and $80. I would never pay over a $100.
Find out if you can get in on a local "dyno day" and you'll probably get it cheaper.
Make sure you find a shop with a dynojet dyno, and not a mustang dyno. If youre just looking for a number that everybody compares, go to a shop with a dynojet.

Shops also rent by the hour, but it will be more expensive. You pay a flat rate per hour, and get as many pull as you can. That's usually used for tuning.

No mods all stock, car just seems a bit slow. I don't even think I could burn the rubber on the tires if I tried. Not that I go around doing burn outs to test the power in my car, but I am just saying when I let the clutch out the RPMs will just drop and I will have the acceleration of a fast dodge neon.

lol no I didn't buy the car to burn rubber, I bought it because it looked amazing and it handles great and I mean its a spots car so its got to have some power at the wheels to go along with that look and feel. Your telling me a RX8 can't do a burn out?

If it really feels like you couldn't spin the tires if you tried, then either you're driving it wrong or something is wrong with the car. Take it to the dealership and tell them you have a loss of power, doing a dyno run isn't going to do you any good.

Check some of the dyno threads on the forum and do some research. The overall number won't tell you if there is something wrong with your car. The shape of the curve will and where your max torque and HP numbers are. You should know what the curve "should" look like before you get on the dyno so you can tell if there is something wrong.
Search and you'll find the dyno thread.
