Economy impacting future/current mods to your 8?

Has the economy impacted what you want to do? Recently my company has had lots of layoffs and today announced pay cuts and no 401k match until further notice. Last week I purchased something for my car that was a nice small chunk of change and with today's development, most likely will not do any further mods this year.

Sorry but not the point of the thread Has the downturn in the economy impacted what you want to spend on your car.

yes and no - i still need to finish my rear but haven't picked a route more b/c of my own indecisiveness more than anything. of course if it weren't for this economy i probably would have thrown down for the CF rear diffuser or MS rear i really want.

I feel if I keep buying parts... That this flow of money to other companies and businesses will stimulate this economy.

I hope it works!

My department has been on "little to no" overtime since the first of the year. Interestingly enough, this was predicted and planned out before the economy went to ****, since our budget is based on contracts and 2009 was going to be a slow year anyway.

So, I haven't gotten the 6 paid off in full yet, which is where my excess OT money always went. That should still be done by early summer though. The only mod I have planned for the 8 is replacing the stock speakers with something more pleasing to my ears. That way I can enjoy it as a daily driver more, and put some energy into getting rid of the RattleMonster.

I'm currently in the market to buy an RX-8. I'm finding it easier to haggle with salesman as no one is buying cars here in Australia! The car yards are empty.

I've slowed on both the 7 and the 8. I'm still finishing off the suspension mods but not looking at any power mods now. I've also started looking at hi-perf touring tires instead of soft summers like before to help save a little.

Down to 32 hours, no overtime, no 401k contribution, no yearly raise = no mods, no more $10 car washes every weekend, no more pleasure runs in the mountains.

So far so good - the accounting field is still stable - problem is though, they're offering only hourly wages - meaning they control overtime - which sucks because they're not allowing it to any hourly employee's. I know that if they allowed me to work overtime - i'd probably kill it w/50+ hour weeks - partly because of the work load, but mostly because of the money...

p.s.- 401k match?? what's that?? /sarcasm

good thread!
As for me, it hasn't changed my plans TOO much, just trying to be cauious as to how I spend money (which I always have been) and hoping that the dollar / yen rates get better in our favor so I can order more stuff!

So do any of you have problems with part time hours? I work at Kroger as a butcher and used to get anywhere from 30 all the way to 40+ hours a week which was really nice, but now the managers are cutting everyones hours so bad to were if you are not full time then its hard to get even over 20 hours.

It is having a philosophical impact for me. I'm fortunate to be stably employed and have the cash on hand, but that's in large measure because I did plan, as a frugal Yankee, for a rainy day which unfortunately is upon us. It's much harder to justify mod's just given the general climate these days. I'll most likely put FI on further hold and just do the cosmetic stuff (new rims/tires, etc.). Still, every once in awhile I figure I've already done enough to be fiscally conscious and it's time for some fun, especially after such a long and harsh winter.

As is obvious, most everyone's cutting back on expenditures is just furthering the poor economic spiral. So, thanks R8xing for your personal 'stimulus package!'

I'm trying to help! I just dropped a couple grand on a goodies for my 8.
Does it still stimulate the economy if I paid an American company but they're getting the parts from Japan?

Wife wants a kid this year into next year, my z32 will pribably sold by the end of the year. As for work, we get a raise soon and overtime was approved through march. Our jobs are safe for at least one year since they already did some corporate firings and said nothing will change for the year. Luckily they see our department as a good thing for Mazda, its both good for R&D and warranty. I am doing soso and money is only tight due to the kid idea, mods are no more in my life either way with the economy.
