Emission Recall 4206F- REFUSED
#26
heh. I got the letter and brought the car in. I had to ask my local dealer to not do anything besides the ECU reflash since I run different spark plugs, I don't have a cat for them to check, and I don't need them putting washer fluid in with my 2 stroke oil.
No issues - got the reflash and went on my way

from ur standpoint, i don't understand how exactly u can get a reflash, period.
their programs are calibrated on what they should have...according that its stock NA rx-8. had they had a force-induced "program", they would've offer that to you. but think about it before venting off...your car is now turboed, how would you not rely on the safety of your motor by getting an "tuning shop" calibrate your ecu?
-what kind of kit are you running? why doesn't it come with an stand-alone?
i'm taking into account that stock ecu's are obviously running under vacuum conditions, not forced induced.
i'm not trying to be an ***, but i will have to agree with the fact that YOU decided to alter the car. and if a cop can give you a ticket on systems that are meant for racing, the dealership will also have the same right to say that to you as well. its a way they can cover there ***.
and yes, warranty work pays only a fraction. but to think if you bring your car in on slow seasons it will not matter as the techs are starving for work. BUT, they didn't turn u away for that reason. they are techs, not some aftermarket performance tuners. the 2 different mindsets conflicts. your reflash obviously takes only a few minutes to plug-in. but having any failures and marrying your car from other issues isn't what anyone wants. and i can understand that. you are asking for some tuning service for free which other tuning shops work countless hours on to get a certain boost turbocharged system right.
so story short. don't expect your car to last as long as near factory stock cars...and even shorter life span without any ecu work from a tuning shop.

do you even know what you're talking about? as I understand all turbo for rx8 comes with piggy back systems. What that means? Piggy Back system either intercept or Alter the singal from ECU. What does that have to do with the ECU itself ?
and recall is required, it does not matter what kind of gay whatever crap you put on your car, as long as your car can start and move to a dealership, they have to do it.
tunning services for free .... LOL !
man, please stop replying to this thread. You need to re-read what you've typed, cuz obviously u dont even know wtf u talking about.

Troch, what you are missing is that this is not a reflash like RacingBeat, Pettit, or Mazdatrix would do, this is a change in the amount of oil injected into the engine and maybe emissions related.
It should not affect anything on his car concerning the F/I fuel management.
Please read up on what you are talking about, not all the folks on this board are as kind as me.

a lot of people in this thread seem to like to ignore the fact that a recall is legally required assuming the owner requests the recall to be performed... warranty honestly has nothing to do with it. Now, I will agree that I dont quite get why you'd want a new reflash... your current tuning for the turbo should be set up correctly and a reflash would mess that up (at least that's my understanding).

No current FI system in place would see ill effects from the PCM being flashed. We either force the car into open loop and add fuel as required, or bypass the PCM for fuel completely...

I just bought my rx 8 and i was thinking about taking to a mazda dealership and getting all the updates, cause i dont think the place i bought it from did it since they arent a mazda specific dealership. Does this cost any money? And what do you guys think about the mazdaspeed parts, cause i was gonna check those out while i wait?
#39
What do you mean by all the updates? Recalls have to be done for free so that is not an issue. TSB's only apply if your car shows symptoms of the problem mentioned in the TSB. The dealer is not going to do free work for a non exsistant problem. As for the Mazdaspeed products are you interested in the cosmetic ones or 'performance'? The cosmextic ones have a rep of high cost and high quality. The performace ones are no better than the aftermarket. But to the people that worry about their warranty if you let the dealer install them gives them one less thing to worry about.
#40
well for the cosmetic, i was thinking about getting the front and rear strut bars, and maybe the mazdaspeed CAI. but i dunno. I like how racing beat actually shows dyno results of the hp/torque gains. So i might go with them

BUT ... Dealers are required by FEDERAL LAW to do all recall work. period. end of story.
