Ok, you are engine braking then. Your just using the brakes and the engine at the same time. Makes sense.

I don't know man ... I'm not downshifting through the gears and rely on the transmission to slow me down. From some of the descriptions, I don't think what I'm doing is considered engine braking. Regardless, just a means to an end, right?

^^^Sure is.

Maybe I'm just a little to fanatic in my description of engine braking. To me anytime you lift off the throttle while the car is in gear and the clutch is engaged (i.e. slowing down) you are engine braking.

engine braking aka downshifting is normal. Many people drop gears as they are decreasing speed. I personally don't rev match and have never had a problem with over 20 years of driving manuals. To those who say that it wears down the clutch faster, that may be true, but whats the difference when your revving to 9K and clutching to upshift, or dropping 2 gears ands punching it.

I would say don't worry too much on it. If it does wear, it's a normal wear part and I think is negligible. Enjoy your car...

wait..so i'm not getting the real point here..
is it okay? or is it not okay??
I mean when i downshift to slow down, RPM goes AT MOST around 4000.
I usually downshift and get rpms around 3000.
My dad told me to use engine break in freeway mostly.
I don't know if i should tell him engine breaking is bad for the car, but i still don't get it.
I also heard when it's raining, engine breaking is better than just using the break, and i'm talking about high speed cruising.
haha sorry guys but i'm still not sure if it's bad or normal inevitable wear ??

Everyone does it whenever they lift thier foot off the gas without pushing in the clutch. It's normal, it's fine, you're not causing any adverse wear and tear.

Don't tell your dad that it is bad for the car, because it isn't.
