Engine Check Light! Oh Noes!

Left my car alone for about 13 days, and came back to start it up. Started up fine, however, I heard a "ding" and lo and behold, the check engine light came up.

After driving it for a mile or so, I turned it off. Went to get some food, came back and started it up. No check engine light.

Any ideas?

only thing I would say is try to pull the codes and see what comes up.

yeah, pretty vague description... but there is like 5000 things a CEL could be. Pull the codes! My CEL has gone off like 4 times in the last 2 months: 30000 miles on the car... get it warrantied every time but its damn annoying! just like the rattle from the glove box!... that they claim to fix, and not hear.

Probably a misfire . Do not worry about it unless it comes back and stays on.

a cel will not ding. but a low tire light will.. it will also go off after you drive it fo a while. as tire pressure increases.

look close next time. it could be the tire pressure.

beers

I had same situation. though I had negative saide battery pulled out, so it doesnt drain the battery.

CEL came on, I kinda freaked out... I drove for a while, when I restarted the car, It was gone since then... I would go with Razz1, "Misfire" Well if it keeps coming up then yea, pull the codes

Yea, mine came on a couple days ago. Had it checked and nothing seemed to be the matter. It came on and went off next time I started it up just like yours. Might get it checked just to be sure, but most likely nothing..

Drove through a biiiiiiig puddle, soaked the car, cel came on for an hour or so and then went off as everything dried. Had it checked, no codes stored. All fine. If it doesn't come on again, probably nothing at all to worry about. Just a warning ... stuff might be coming your way. j/k

swoope is smrt. no ding on the CEL. (!) = tpms. check your manual and be sure you've got the indicator right.

if it was the cel and it's off now don't worry too much about it unless it lights up again. had mine light up once on a Tuesday night and I couldn't get it to the dealer til thursday morning. By then it was off. never came back on tho.
