Engine Cut Off After 15 mins..
Pplzz..
My 8's engine cuts off after almost every 15 mins of running.. This was not the case a couple of months ago when temperatures were lower..
Has anyone else faced the same problem? Could it be the heat (45 Deg C +) that is overheating any sensor or something?
When the engine cuts off and the 8 'rests' for around 10 mins or so, i can start it again and it runs fine for another 15 mins before shutting down again...
Quite perplexed!
HELP!!

well the autos had a really hard time in vegas, where it doesn't get as hot as what you're talking about, so your tranny fluid might be overheating if it's an auto, if it's a manual then maybe your engine is overheating.

Guessing.....
We'd just be guessing without more info .....
How does it stop -
-electrical cut/lights go off?
-engine slows to a crawl before dying?
-engine just stops cold at highway speed?
-engine coughs, chokes, misfires then stops?
-engine won't idle, quits at each stop sign?
Fill us in and I'm sure we can come up with your problem.

Thanks pplz for your replies..
It's a 2003 Manual with 19,000 miles on it.. I recently replaced the plugs and it had an ignition coil failure as well.. I have another car that i use for long drives The engine temp gauge feel quite comfy staying in the middle section..
As for how it stops.. hmmm.. i'll go with the 'engine coughs, chokes, misfires then stops' option.. It runs perfectly well for those 15 mins (of fame).. i can rev it as high as i want to.. suddenly the engine chokes.. all the lights flash up and the engine cuts out.. 10-12 mins of ppl gazing.. swearing.. even a few hand signs.. and it jolts back to life..
Need Help!!!

You could try doing the throttle body bypass mod in the DIY section. I swear it has made a difference in how my car drives in hot weather. But do it at your own risk. I don't know how it will affect a warranty, although I suppose your warranty isn't valid in Pakistan anyway.

Pump.....
Try this -
Next time you start getting this behavior, note how full/empty the gas tank is. Refill tank and see if it stops or decreases the problem.
I have heard of two similar cases, one only happens at less than 1/2 full tank, seems to be a fuel pump or filter problem.
Keep in touch,
S

alright since I am guessing you dont have a scanalyzer, and you replaced the coils and plugs, check the MAF sensor area and clean that, check the intake also and possibly replace it and also a weak battery also can cause a lot of problems. My 8 is about the same milege as yours and also a type S. JDM version as yours. My problems also came when i hhit 17500 miles. dead coils, clogges cat, MAF pipe carbon build up. Do you have a live CEL or only when vehicle stalls you get all the lights? sucks not having a mazda dealer huh...welcome to the club of "no mazda dealers in the country"

Stealth - Could a dead ignition coil have this effect: engine cut off every few minutes?

When i changed the ignition coil i changed all four, but two of them were in bad shape, i just changed them all. Yes bad coil can put your car in to limp mode every now and then. It does not matter what the weather is like, the thing is we do not get premium fuel as ppl in other countries get. So thats a bad problem. I suggest you change your battery, all four ignition coil, plug cables, air filter and change the engine oil and filter. I am sure your car will run fine after that.

Update:
Experimented quite a bit lately. Turns out the engine cut-offs only occur when the ambient temp is above 45 Deg C. Below that temp, the 8 has never failed.
Hmmm.. makes me wonder if there is an exhaust sensor or oil temp thing that cuts the engine off everytime ambient temp is above 45 Deg C & the 8 overheats... though the gauges never show this increase..
Technical pplz.. please shed some light on this!
