How would he know how to fire up his computer and get on the web? Or find a forum like this one? Or whether or not it's appropriate to fart in public?

We should expect some degree of competence and manners from people. Lurking and browsing in a forum before posting is one of those things. Seeking a FAQ is another.

The bashing of newbies who asks the standard questions does, however, get a little tiresome. The poor guy gets hit with wrath that is the cumulative anger at hundreds who did the same thing. Kind of like the tale of the Marine drill instructor who, while working with yet another platoon of recruits after 20 years, yells at them "Don't you guys ever learn?"

IMHO, if someone is tired of seeing this kind of post, they just should not reply. It's not anyone's job to answer. There is likely to be someone freshly emerged from newbie status who will reply, and is happy to show off their newly found knowledge. The answering of basic questions gets handed down from generation to generation, and the rest of us can devote our time to pounding on people who start kill threads or who say they're trading their 8 for something else.

Ah yes, yet another douchebag who bought his car from "Billy Bob's Used Deals" who does not know how to search a web site nor read an owner's manual, but then insults longstanding original owners.

You must have have read "how to win friends and influence people" ...

Can we just go out and buy up every used RX-8 and crush them so the idiots don't get them? I'll personally do two or three just to save the breed.

I don't think some of you have put enough common sense thought into this, yet you are bashing noobies for not thinking enough.

Some things are simple to search if you are focused on something in particular, like exhaust mods or engine mods or wheels or windshield repair or dent repair. When you're not sure what is going on, you don't know what part to focus on and things are much more open-ended, in which case searching can be daunting and/or take forever.

For example, when my car was taking about 5 cranks to start up (instead of the usual 2) and did a little chirp when it finally started, it was unclear what to search. Do I search "engine hard start" or "cranks but hard start" or "chirp at start" or "spark plugs" or "coils"?

Obviously, the last 2 are specific but most noobies wouldn't know to suspect those on first hunch. Back then, I actually did the other searches listed above and got a mess of stuff, most of which was irrelevant. I finally was able to put together a picture from all kinds of directions and all kinds of threads that allowed me to make my own hunch: spark plugs. But it was confusing at first because there were so many chaotic threads going in all directions replete with "expert" A-holes talking out of their A-holes making quick judgements like "need new engine" or "detonation and you can't do anything about it." No wonder noobies are confused. The threads get them even more confused than they were initially. I still don't understand why there isn't a Sticky with the title "engine bog with or without AC on, chirping at start, extra cranks required to start" that directs people to check 1. spark plugs, 2. coils, and 3. catalytic converter. It seems to me all these issues tend to be connected at the above 3 places, yet we have a shitload of chaotic threads going all over the damn place. To swoopes credit, I remember a recent thread in which he directed the person to check the above 3 items in the exact order, but why isn't this stuff put into ONE easy thread with a CLEAR title?

because if we didn't get to bicker in these threads, THEN what would we do?

I confused. Is it something new that the fan comes on when the car is hot? Our 1985 Hyundai Excel would keep the fan on after car shut off too. Not blaming people for now knowing things, but come on, this seems to come up on every car board as an 'issue'. Even common sense would tell you that the car is probably trying to cool itself off.

Instead of jumping on the 'do a search' bandwagon, how about you put yourself in their shoes; they are genuinely upset and need answers now, *particularly* if they are new to the Rx8. So they come to the one place where there is a fountain of expert knowledge only to be bagged out by their own comrades. Nice guys, really nice.... makes for such a welcoming environment.
consider it as an initiation ceremony . Lots come on here and get flamed - they can't take it and go away - good riddance . Those that hang around after a few flamings get the idea and really enjoy the forum .

I think some of these "experts" with weird attitudes are actually WEIRDOS in real life. I think a lot of the real experts who have been here forever like zoom44 already know they are weirdos. I'll bet they will try to stay away from these folks at Seven Stock. Can you imagine trying to be pals with someone online in the RX8 forum whom you know is probably weird and then you meet them at something like seven stock? What do you do then? Try to avoid them online?

Behold the archetypical thread for this forum--replete with vituperative language and sophomoric obscenities.

I already told you why noobs like this are treated as such...no spoon feeding allowed
would you expect your professor to just give you answers to all assignments, tests, exams, etc... ??

They have all the knowledge you seek but then how would u learn if you're just given everything?

haha, surely not! i don't expect professors to give out answers to exams but, i also don't expect forum club members to be *********, this ain't college, people go online to find things they need. to my understanding thats one of the reasons forums exist, help, chat, etc...people can't help being noobs. if they ask noob questions, iether help or point them to the right direction. even if they waste space, do u pay for it?no, sponsors do and sponsors want more and more peeps in their forum.. with all this post, it's kinda time consuming to look through 10+post with many pages just to find a simple answer!
