Exclamation Engine Rebuild?

Hey all,
I was tooling around on another forum and they were talking about RX-8 engine rebuild after 70k miles. Yeah OK, have any of you heard of this or have any creditable web links proving this statement?
Thanks
Jeremy

News to me.

Was the car in question raced, dragged, abused?

Not sure, probably. I am just trying to find some proof of this.

Link?

Engines in all cars break down. Some fail at 5k, some fail at 250k. There's a reason for everything.

Driven normally and being stock (and not a defective engine), I highly doubt that. A little idea of durability, my first gen RX7 is pushing just over 200kmi now--I drive the hell outta it too.

And then there's little questions like maintenance and regular servicing.

More info is required before this can be assessed with any kind of intelligence.

The one I have described is N/A (of course). However, my FI first gen is overdue for a rebuild (no time )...

Revolver is right, we need much more info...

Just curious

you could rebuild your engin when ever you like, but breaking down and need a new engin is a different thing. My 87 NA RX7 got 170K, It lost some HP but it still run so why rebuild just drive till it drop.

Well, I have a 100k warranty on my car, I only plan to keep it till it hits 100k. If the warranty dose not cover things like seals or what not, I will **** a brick.....

I'm at 43k right now. (She should be paid off by the time i hit 100k, lol)

BS. And as I've stated in other threads here, my FC Turbo's original engine went ~150K before it needed to be replaced.

the FD had such a bad effect on the general public's perception of the rotary.

don't get me wrong. the FD was/is an incredible machine, it had some relibilty issues (mainly because of the actions of idiot tuners). but even outside the idiot tuners, it had some issues caused by its less than adequate cooling. but it was mainly the fault of improper tuning.

Hi,

I am new to the site. I currently have a 1994 RX7 so I am not new to rotaries but I am looking at buying an RX8 for my wife and I have a couple questions. I came across a 2004 RX8 that already has approx 100,000 miles on it. Obviously mostly highway. I was wondering if anyone knows what type of longevity these engines might have and if something were to take a dump what is an engine rebuild gonna cost. Normally I wouldn't even bother but the car is such a great deal and loaded. Thanks for the help.

my dealer told me something about the car lasting 200k miles.

when the dealer is talking, it is mostly lies and half-truths, but I have no idea on this one.

Consider yourself lucky if you can reach even 60k+ and people say you don't wanna be around when that failing seal explode.

hell i just hit 40 k miles ( in 1 year.. ) and i think the car is finally just getting broken in... it seriously took this long until is so SMOOTH. the first 20k miles it was bitchy and rough compared to what it is now. @ 15k+ power began increasing a bit and now it feels incredible. it's a drastic diffrence from what it was. i really like this car.
