Ah but the keyword that your using is "Most" engines are perfectly ok. Only time will tell. Kinda funny that you used the cell phone example since I actually work for a wireless company. And yeah they definitely do send out refurb phones, and most people have no idea. However, it's a little more serious when we're talking about an engine. God forbid Mazda be responsible and actually correct the mistakes that they made on 04's with a newer improved engine.

Both issue has been corrected in the newer model.(3rd cooler and center nozzle) Lets just wait and see if any other problem shows up.

update
Finally got my 8 back today. It ran like new on the way home so I'm pretty happy, and that rough idle is gone. I asked the service dude if there was any kind of break in on a remanufactured engine and he said no. Does everyone agree? Figured it would be best to check with the people who know the most. :D

There's honestly no way for a dealer to make the case that improper engine oil was used...only that perhaps the engine was oil starved or too much oil was present and oil locked the motor.
The viscosity of oil changes over time and as the oil breaks down from use it's viscosity changes. Unless you changed your oil that day or close to it, they couldn't tell with any accuracy. That's assuming they actually tested it which I highly doubt they would.
