Engine Replacement

I'm getting my 2004 engine replaced (under warranty, thankfully) - what's my new engine going to look like? MNOA just said it was a remanufactured engine that is "up to the latest specifications" - but I'm guessing its going to be a pre-09 design? Does anyone know the details?

It will be an engine, just like the one you have presently. It will have been rebuilt at Mazda's reman facility in Virgina and they do a good job. One of their employees used to post here.

It will be the same 2004/2005 model engine you currently have. Just remanufactured as Al said.

Mine had 33,000 miles on it. Regular oil changes, sometimes as often as every 2000 miles. I wouldn't assume that your car was abused just because the engine went.

I guess I'm trying to figure out of the "flaws" of the original engine will be be fixed in this new engine, and if so, what specifically about the reman will be different..

think of it as a rebuilt engine
usually rotaries fail due to apex seals, so shot engines get sent back, replace apex seals and test for compression if they are good, then they are ready to put into the car.

the flaws of the original engine is the flaws of pretty much all S1 engines which is lack of lubrication

Exactly. So just throwing new seals on and sending it back doesn't give me much confidence in the replacement engine. Plus, if it were really that simple I would expect replaced engines would have a hefty core charge from mazda, which to my knowledge they don't?? So I'm guessing & hoping there is more to their "re-manufacturing" process than just swapping out apex seals.

They're rebuilt, not overhauled. Everything should be within new specs.
