has anyone came across this problem? i checked the batteries and they were
fine but i dont know why its doing that. atleast 2 a day my car would have hard
starting ignition how can i resolve this?

i went to mazda and they said they juss refrreshed the computer and i shouldent have problems but it keeps happing. what can i do? im also taking my car back to

It's a tough issue to solve, I'm going through the same problem myself. First time, they reflashed the PCM...problem was still there. Second time, they said they had "obtained some data on my car to send to Mazda". Third time I mentioned it, they ordered new spark plugs...and I'm having them installed on Tuesday. If that doesn't work...I dunno. I do hope the spark plugs correct the problem, I like the service guys at my Mazda dealership and don't really want to keep harrassing them about this.

The other thing you can do is to just keep the key in the On position for about 20 seconds before cranking it. This usually solves any hard starting problem about 98% of the time.

I had a problem with warm/hot engine starts. Cold starts weren't a problem. No power loss.

Engine was replaced.

What do you mean by sketchy? You say you checked the batteries, is it cranking slowly? Has the car ever flooded? If I'm not mistaken the latest flashes delay fuel delivery under certain conditions in order to prevent flooding. This can cause longer than normal cranking before it comes to life. That would be a good thing if it is what you are experiencing, much preferable to flooding.
Paul.

Mine too, I can feel it is hard to crank it up. sketchy cranking.

Mine just has 1,000 mile on it and I checked CCA, but the battery fine.

Everything look good such as spark plugs.

Does every RX-8 have some problem? or just some of them?

If so, how should I solve it? Do I have to complain this problme to dealer?

Can anyone give me the exact answer how you solve it?

I just started having a problem that sounds very much like this! I have about 37K on my car and I don't want a new engine. It only just happened about 2 times in the last 2 weeks but if it happens again I'm going to talk to the guys at the dealership! Again, I really don't want my engine swapped!

Is your car on level ground when you are having this problem? Many people are having this problem when they park on a hill.

The most common problem with slow start RX-8's is the OE battery there is a counter-measure battery now available from Mazda. Basically it just has alot more CCA's that the OE. As far as cold start issues it does state in the owners manual that upon start allow the car 30sec to 1 min to warmup before engaging a gear or shutting the engine off, if you do not you will flood it and foul your plugs which in most cases will be covered under warranty but the inconvienance will not be.

Well, got the new spark plugs today. Guess what...problem's still there. I'm so sick of taking the car in for this problem that I think I'm just going to live with it already. Not to mention even the service guys seem to be losing patience with me bugging them over this problem. I still love Mazda and rotaries, but it's unfortunate for Mazda's image that the RX-8 is going to be out there in public parking lots giving everybody around it the impression that it's a 20 year old beater on its last legs everytime it tries to start up.

The worst part is my gas gauge needle seems to be dropping faster with the new spark plugs than before. I'm dreading to see what the final value is for my MPG next time I fill up.

I just started having this problem. I haven't started it for about a week. I went to turn it over and it started cranking the engine and then all the sudden it sounded like the starter was turning but the engine wasn't! I'm not sure what's wrong and it hasn't gone away yet?!

Anyone have any ideas? I've had the new battery put in, latest flash about 1 month ago and I have 44K miles.

A quick update. Had it towed to the dealer and they said it was flooded. They replaced the plugs, reflashed the computer, and cleared out the rotors. Runs fine now.

I been noticing that alot of RX8 owners are having starting or engine flooding.
Its just that I don't do anything special with mine on engine shutdown and have never had it flood. must be something in the onboard program feeding a richer mixture on some cars, hmm, wierd eh....

I don't have a problem with mine. I park it in the garage all week and it starts right up every weekend. There's one thing I do with all my cars though. I turn on the ignition switch and wait for the fuel pump to cycle up. I can hear it and other things spinning/acitivating. Once they stop then I start the car. I do this on my Mazda 3 as well. Only have to wait a few seconds but I never have a problem.
