I like the idea of how the rotary works, but a rotary in a Civic isn't getting my attention. I like the uniqueness of the 8 which is much more than just its engine.
Also, just because you see a lot of engineers on this site doesn't mean the majority of 8 owners are engineers. Technical people like engineers are more likely to spend time on this forum. Also, engineers love being loud about how they're right so they're usually the more vocal ones on this forum.

Finance major.
Should have done a better job on that cash flow analysis before I purchased this car. My internal rate of return is shot to hell.
Oh, well. Guess I'm just stuck with the greatest car I've ever had the opportunity to own!

BS Computer Science, currently working Engineering IT in a major aerospace company.
I think Raptor75 captured it best: the "simple elegance" of the rotary design. The rotary is 3 moving parts in a flowing mechanical dance. Piston engines are umpteen parts flying in barely controlled chaos and then reversing themselves. It's like a 3 line recursive algorithm verses 3 pages of spagetti code. Simple can be brillant.
The fact that the rotary revs like hell, is insanely fun to drive and comes in a sensuous yet athletic body is not clouding my purely intellectual analysis.

Electrical engineer - Lockheed Martin.
I bought the 8 because I like sports cars, and the 8 was far more fun to drive than the Z, looked way better than the STI or EVO IMO, and I didn't feel like a doush bag driving it. I felt that way in an S2000, nothing against them, just not my thing.

Mechanical Engineer, nearly 4 yrs working for at a major Truck OEM.
Always loved the 7's since my dad had an 85 GLS-SE
I said i would buy the RX-8 when it came out....
Took me 2 yrs to pull the trigger
7 hundred miles, still looking for fun roads to explore the 8

No fancy degrees here.
At 18, I joined the Air Force and became an Explosive Ordnance Disposal tech.
Back then, most Air Force pilots favored Corvettes (especially fighter pilots).
From the number of former or current EOD techs I've seen on this forum (3 counting myself), it seems that the RX-8 may be our favored cars. Maybe not such a large dataset to work with, but it works for me. :D
Since then, I have been a multivalue database programmer. 17 years and counting.

Personally i'm a aero- engineer, lockheed martin. And the rx-8 having a rotary DEF drew me to it, guess its a hidden tech thing.

Flunked out of engineering here too...calculus kicks my ***...especially when all the professors were arabic or indian with heavy accents...
I have an associates in Criminal Justice, and a Bachelors in Fine Arts specializing in digital animation and film.
Go figure I'm a Realtor, and have been for 4 years now.

Not quite an engineer but have a degree in the electrical engineering field - RF tech as my major and communications/data as my minor (in general terms).
Wanted a RX7 since the early 80s. Got one. Wanted a new rotary. Got a RX8. Double the fun.

it seems this nerd=rx8 might be genetic as well, alot of rx8 owners had "nerdy" parents that had a rx7, maybe my kid will get a rx9 in 10 years. also alot of lockheed here, "we never forget who we're working for"

A girl I went to school with had a dad with a degree in art history who was a truck driver and had a family farm. I can't say that those go together either.

B.S. Systems Engineering
M.S. Mechanical Engineering
Actual job: Fab (factory) Automation software
Yes, geek. Big time. I'm wearing a flannel shirt right now. I could say that much of the time.
I love the 8 but not so big on the rotary. Lightweight, 200+hp, great manual tranmission, 4 seats all fantastic. Great handling, possibly better than my old MR-2s. 17 mpg bugs me. My old WRX got %45 better mileage with similar horsepower, more weight and far worse aerodynamics. But the 8 beats the WRX by EVERY other measure except towing capacity (really). The 8 is just great to drive.
An 8 with Honda's 240 hp 2 liter would probably be my ideal choice. But the rotary is fun too.

I have degrees in Computer Science... just got a BB RX-8 and am loving it. Always really liked the idea of the rotary. Now I need to figure out what to get my wife into so she stops borrowing it...

Now, knowing that there are a lot of savvy people on these boards i have to ask you all question. Do you guys know of the quasiturbine engine? I'm fascinated by it just like I’m fascinated by the rotary. Gotta love the engineering of these engines!
