ETA august for California

Just got a call from my dealer who said that because of the production line delays, cars will not be here until early August. I'm in the first order group.

Have you heard the same from your dealers?

90% of the dealers are far less informed about the car and it's arrival date than most of the people on this form. This is the first one that had a later arrival date than what's commonly thought to be the timeframe here, at least that I've seen. I'm still hoping for mid-July. Until we hear something official from Mazda USA, I'm not putting any stake in dealer ETAs....

I was at my dealer yesterday and he was showing me the online Mazda database for all allocated and pre-ordered cars, it looked to me a like secure website (any Mazda reps here? Please correct me if I'm mistaken). Things such as order #, vehicle specs, build start date, VIN, in-port dates, current status are all available. My rep mentioned the estimated delivery may slip sometimes, but the in-port dates are accurate, we took an look at Mazda6 which showed it arrived the 16th in Long Beach harbor.

The earliest RX-8 he had on the screen showed it was already building (start date of May 1, fwiw), and a delivery date of June. This was a 6 spd, Ti, with black cloth and nav. My car unfortunately got pushed back from 2nd to 3rd allocation, since all 1st allocation numbers were cut. Originally he was expecting 5 cars each allocation, now its only 2 for the 1st, 4 or 5 for the 2nd, hopefully 5 for the third, etc., ramping upwards after that (I'm #8 on the list). According to the database, 1st allocation delivery to Los Angeles (in dealer status) is June 15, 2nd allocation is not yet in production, but should commence very soon. That said, he is estimating middle of August for me, not bad I guess considering I got bumped back a notch.

So you're estimating August for 3rd allocation and June 15th for first; would early to mid July be a good estimate for 2nd allocations? I ask this because I'm in the 2nd allocation and my dealer is totally clueless. I would really like one straight answer on when my particuliar car will be here.

Unfortunately your one straight answer doesn't exist because that information has not yet been released by Mazda Corp. Believe me, we're all as desperate to know as you are....

Just reporting what the database showed. IMO, we are still at the early stages of a brand new manufacturing line, so there are probably many unpredictable factors that could affect production schedules. It's not like Mazda is withholding information from us, it's just that all anyone can do is make a best guess based on what information is available to them, at that particular moment. Being an early adopter on many things (not really a good habit), I'd prefer they take their time and get it right.

Also keep in mind actual deliver date is going to be based on your location also (for Virginia, the port is probably Baltimore).

Baltimore is not the port du jour. It will be Newark NJ because that's where they have the facilities to add emissions and port options. Ship time from Japan to Newark is 30 days; about double the time to the west coast.

I seriously doubt that they'd ship cars bound for the west coast to NJ only to be shipped cross country again. West coast cars are probably LA-bound....

he means that it takes twice as long for the ship to get to the east coast than the west coast.

but that trip to newark is probably a bit shorter now, thanks to the aussies making the Panama Canal a little wider

thanks to toadman for the link

I have a printout from the dealer that says my estimated build date is"JUN WK/1". I was told that delivery has been consistent at 12 weeks from build date. Also, I believe the port for northern California is Benicia.

These are some fast shipping boats.

I thought it took 3 weeks min. to get a boat from Japan to USA. I am glad to hear that it is only 15 days.

Damn if the car is being built now and it is going to be in the dealers hands by June 15th than that is some fast turn-around at the port. Someone's feeding crack to the longshoremen these days.

Anyway, I am officially in the first allocation. If I can have it by July 19th I will be a happy man. That's my 10 year high school reunion.

dont get ur hopes up . june 15th is the supposed time it reaches LA(southern ca) dealers. and that date is shaky at best. now as with all new releases, cali gets them first, then it starts moving eastward. i would say it would take about 2 weeks to reach houston. i really hope that date, june 15th, is accurate. but i was at my dealer today asking for my VIN #, the guy said, latest word was that its delayed about a month. i didnt get my VIN, only 2 cars at the dealer have the VINS.

heres a little bit of advice i have learned thru life. hope for the best and expect the worst. if u get ur hopes up then ur only setting urself up for dissappointment.

Life is just a game of: Want-Settle-Get

We WANT our RX-8's in June
We will SETTLE for July
But we will GET August (God I hope not)

P.S. when I called to see if they had my vin yet on Friday, it was a negitive.
