It would be great to get pictures of the train loads of RX8s and pictures of RX8s all parked there before loading on trucks. I am close to the Midlothian spot.

I got a call from my dealer, Marina Motors
in Capitola CA, last night.
He said that there was a two-month
production delay for all cars and that my
first-allocation Titanium MT will be here
no earlier than August.

I asked him to check if he had my VIN
number and he hasn't got back yet.

I don't mind waiting (much) if there really
has been a delay, but I am hoping we can
collectively keep the dealers from making
side deals with the pre-order cars.
Knowledge is power.

Wow 2 month delay. Seems like dealers are just giving out numbers. Some say 1 month, couple weeks...what is the for sure answer? We may never know .

It is just another reason to never take anything your dealer says too seriously.

In the last 60 seconds, I talked to Jeff Haas Mazda here in Houston, the good news is that they have two vin numbers:

....0784 and
....1119

The bad news is neither one is mine and I am now in the second alotment; they tried to change a car in the first alotment to fit my request but weren't able to. My sales person Keith still has the production delay at 1 month so the first allotment should be mid-July while the second allotment should be mid-August.

That's my news so take it for what its worth.

Is that dealer down in Santa Cruz? 3 months ago I went down there and ask them if I should pre-order one for delivery at the end of November. They said that was way to early and told me to come back at mid June. From what you hear from them, do you think that they can have a car for me at that time if I order now?

November delivery

Most dealers should have plenty of stock that you may not even need to order one for then. But... I don't think they can take orders for any after the preorders yet. I may be wrong. I'm not sure if the website will continue to be a starting point but it can't hurt to build your dream RX-8 on the Mazda website and shoot the order to a dealer you know and trust - or several that you don't and see who gets back to you and sounds like they could know what they are talking about. Another 3 weeks won't hurt to wait much.

It is the same dealer but I have only dealt with him over email or on the phone.
Judging by the timing of his phone call, I wonder if they _did_ get the VIN number
but were thinking of selling the car to a higher bidder and give me this two-month
delay story.
I wish Mazda had sent us the VIN's instead.

To change the subject, has anyone driven the Mitsubishi Evolution yet?
That may be my alternative. Ugly, no image factor, but a good driver's car.
Also a four door, four seater.

I got their Internet Sale Manager wrote this "will not sell above MSRP" on his business card just for assurance. Hope it works.

So based on Toadman's post, I assume that all 8's will be shipped via oceanliner to California and the shipped via rail to various ports. I was under the impression that East Coast 8's would arrive via oceanliner to the Jacksonville, FL port if not others up the East Coast.
