Ever been subject to an envy crime?

Sorry to hear about this.
I had a Lamborghini Countach 5000S years ago that I sold because of crap like this. I could tell you a hundred stories about idiots and what they have done to my sports cars over the years. Just bought a 2006 Phantom Blue. I love it. Hate to hear that this happened to you. The world is full of idiots. Don't let it get you down. Have fun with this great car, but remember it's just a car. I'm for the karma thing, and I hope it get's these idiots in the end.

Unfortunately I was all the way accross the parking lot coming out of the Costco when I saw them doing this. Fortunately I did get their license plate #as they were pulling away. I will have my revenge one day when I see that car again.
4 slashed tires, key marks from front to rear bumper on both sides, and broken head / tail lamps sounds about right to me...
My good friend has something he always says which rings really true in these circumstances... "If they don't pay they will never change"
It's very true... These people must be forced to pay at some point in such a horrible way that they will question everything they ever do on the road from that day forward. You must commit such an hainous act upon their vehicle that they don't think it's random vandolism and are forced to recall what they may have done to **** someone off...
One day at school my buddy was waiting for a parking spot, some kid comes and snakes the spot, he says WTF... Kid replies, man I'm so late for class and runs off...
Well guess what, we were late for class too. I bet that kid was late getting home after my buddy slashed all 4 tires, and dumped a 20oz coke down his gas tank... "Moral of this story: You are not more important than anyone else" I bet that kid never steals another parking spot in his entire life.

People like that go around thinking that they deserve an arbitrary set of rights instead of ignoring a minor infraction of your social rules of ettiquitte to make someone else happier.
The difference is your buddy did something illegal -- the other dude didn't. Way to be proud of that.
By the way, that Saturn -- it was me!

I agree with Vengeance's sentiment of "If they don't pay they will never change", however, you can't just use any slight or any marginal excuse to escalate a situation out of control. Responding to insults or rudeness with violence and property damage is just too much. It's also useless if it is delayed by weeks and months while you hunt for that same car. What if you find it and key it up next summer when it's been sold to someone else?

How many of you saying this is wrong has ever knowingly stole someone's parking spot, then when confronted about it said oh sorry, but I don't really care, and ran off like nothing was going to happen.
A simple apology, and some human decency being shown and nothing would have happened to that kid's car. If he's never made to PAY he will never LEARN.. end of story.
And if your answer to the above is I wouldn't do that to someone, then obviously you've got nothing to worry about. The people who think this is an unjust way of handling problems would NEVER EVER be the offenders so who cares what some of us do to these other aholes...
People believe they have nothing to worry about, and go around doing as they please to whomever they please. Teaching these people a lesson 1 at a time is doing a service to all society and you know it.
By the way this justice has only been served may be a total of 3 times, and every single time it was so warranted there was no other choice.
How long can you allow people to walk all over everyone and everyone else's stuff with no consequence. This is why this country is in such **** poor shape anyway, no one respects anyone anymore.

That seems completely different in contrast to my original reason for posting this thread...

hey, new to the forums, RX-8 is my dream car
anyway, I currently drive an MX-3 (huge rear windshield). One day, I spent about 2 hours washing and waxing it, making it look really nice what looks nicer than clean shiny gloss black car?). I live in a rural area, no one really around.
About 1 AM in the morning, I hear a loud bang come from outside. I look out thew window, and see the taillights of a pickup truck as it peels out and pulls away. (really dark out, so thats all I can see).
I go outside, and see that someone hit my rear windshield with something. it's totally shattered, safety glass everywhere. It took 2 days to get it all vacumed out of the car. Still don't have a clue who did it, but they must have used a hammer or something, cause with that one hit, they went through the windshield wiper, through the windshield, through the speaker and the housing for it.
Good thing I have full glass coverage, cause it was almost $500 to replace.

I guess I would say I'm envious when I see a Lotus Elise/Exige and people that drive a Carrera GT would think of that as a cheap toy sports car (although the performance FAR exceeds what the price tag would suggest).

As you mentioned, the public's envy isn't usually that of a sports car collector. However, in life...you'll ALWAYS have that. No matter what car you have, there will always be ones you look down on that others only dream of.

And I must say, EVO's are nice and all, but i'd imagine that you'd be subject to A LOT of haters. People that don't like Mits, AWD, musclecar gearheads, and then the added bonus of people who just hate nice cars. Not to say yur any worse off then us though!

I could be wrong, but I don't think people who are really "into" cars would do this sort of thing—even if they were envious. More likely it's a guy (not a "car guy") and his dumbass buddy (or buddies) who are into demonstrating their macho by impulsively vandalizing something. (And let's face it—if you're gonna vandalize something, you want to vandalize something nice.) To the neanderthal who did this, it's a statement that says "I have *****, I'm tough, I'm not afraid to do ****—hey, I'm a guy."
So I suspect it's not so much an envy thing, but more a "testosterone/impress your friends/poor fathering/Tony Soprano's my hero/I'm emotionally 7 years old/dumbing down of America" thing.

^ Good lookin' out! Envy is about the same as jealousy (and they are often interchanged0. The distinction is minor: jealousy is usually reserved for something you already have - ie. you get jealous when your chiquita is talking to some stud at the bar; vs. You are envious about something you don't have - ie. that assho8e who messed w/your 8 was envious of a nice car he can't afford b/c (s)he's an ignorant piece of sh8t with no future.
It just seems to me that someone with the knowledge of sports cars is likely to have some respect for them; hence not pull this type of vandalism. There really should be a hunting season on ********. Just a couple of days is all I ask.

Yeah I have dealt with the same ****, first day at school with my car guess what I come back to? My car hit all over with purple mini paintballs. Are you ******* kidding me? Needless to say everyone knows my car and so they ratted out the kid who did that. Ahhh the sight of the cops getting him was nice :D Sorry to hear about the gravel thing. I cannot even begin to imagine how much of a pain that must have been. Also if I had heard that grinding noise you described I would be crying.
