Here in Texas, everyone and their redneck drives trucks and SUV's. I also looked at many other (non truck based) cars including BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Saab, Chevy, Ford, etc... What I found is that there is an overwhelming majority that average about 18/24 mpg. That is right on par with an RX-8. Yes there are cars that get higher. There are cars that get lower too. I just don't see everyone else on the road make a big deal about their cars getting this mileage. Everyone knows what their car is rated at when they buy it. This is regardless of what type of vehicle is being purchased. Yes there are cars such as the LS1 based Chevy's that have much more power and get really good mileage in relation to the RX-8. There are also cars that are much less powerful with worse gas mileage.

If we all bought cars solely based on gas mileage, we'd all have Civic's or hybrids. If we all bought cars based on power, we'd be driving Viper's or other high power cars. Luckily we have the freedom to drive the cars that suit us the best and make us the most happy. This is why there are so many different cars on the market. If you base your choice off of only one variable, look elsewhere.
I bet if you looked, those other cars in the 18/24 range had bigger gas tanks. Thats my only problem, not the milage. Hving to fill up at least twice a week is a PITA. Especially when compared to my pickup trucks, they only get about 16 MPG, but have over 30 gallon tanks. (Not saying I want a 30 gallon tank in the RX8.)

It would be nice if I could get more than my typical 220 miles per tank.

50,000 mpg using shell gas premium, shifting under 3000 rpm, going off a cliff using only the force of gravity to drive the car.

Many of the cars also got about the same mileage which is why I mentioned also looking at many cars for comparison.

You must not have test driven yet or you wouldn't care so much what the mpg is. I never worry about it while I'm driving -

Stopping at the gas station is even a blast- it gets so many comments- people go out of their way to get a look at it while I'm filling up - sometimes driving in off the street to get a look w/o buying anything at the station.

I get 15-city 20 highway

is there a meter that shows how much gas is left like exactly in litres/gallons or like how many more KM or miles the car can go without gas? (BMW has them)

15.5 mpg city...but if you want economy buy one of them new Toyota Prius cars. If you want a car that is aesthetically appealing and fun to drive, then take the nuts out of the purse and buy the 8. you won't be disappointed....

i have about 2k on my car. milage is very poor. it seems to get worse as i put on more miles too, but that may be only because i've been driving the car harder recently.
i'm about 60% highway and i average about 15mpg.
other than that, the car is awesome. even with the poor milage, i don't think you will regret buying it.

21.16 mpg before 'L' reflash
21 62 mpg after 'L' reflash

Sitting at 13,700 miles.

If you think you are going to worry about the gas mileage - forget buying the RX-8. We already have enough posters who are that way.

Approx. 12500 miles. Over the life of the car, I've averaged 22.33 mpg.

MPG? What the hell is that? Who cares? The only question is; do you like the car? If so, buy it. Drive it. If you're worried about the MPG, go buy a Prius or something like that. It won't be the same, but you'll be getting 60+MPG. Just do us all a favor, if you do buy an 8, don't complain and bitch about the MPG. Face it, this is a sports car, and traditionally, they don't get decent mileage.

Talking

I agree with the other guy, you don't buy this car for MPG!!

You buy it for the looks, the overpowering thrill of driving it and for the attention you get from other. If you drive a lot of miles, why not enjoy them like only you can in the 8!

Let me know what you get. If the 8 isn't right the 6 is very sharp also, it has 220 HP and MPG around 24 -27.
