Hi From over the big lake.
good job you don't have the speed humps like we have over here... you would be slamming all on every 100m.

great forum guys.

However, the laws regarding how fast you accelerate (e.g. - reckless driving) up to the speed limit are much harder to enforce so it's a safer bet. While this is bad for the car, environment, other people's safety, and my wallet it's loads of fun.
I prefer not to hit the brakes, I like to take 2nd gear to 9k and then just let off the gas

If you wanna race, take it to a track.

Think about it, on a track you have
- mandatory safety equipment
- mandatory checks of vehicle condition
- no bystanders
- track has been checked for any oil slicks, debris, etc
- a stack of tires in front of the walls and usually a decent amount runoff area
- fire extinguishers on hand
- paramedics on staff

And yet, people still get hurt and die sometimes. On the street you usually have none of these things, so yeah, racing on the street is retarded and if you do it you should get your license taken away. For the sake of innocent bystanders, not because I care what happens to dumbasses, in fact if you want to remove yourself from the gene pool in such a stupid way then you've done a favor to society.

You just inserted three British things in your very first post. That's gotta be some sort of record.

Someone with a well maintained modified high performance sportscar is nearly always a far far safer driver even at high speeds than the average driver on the road unless their parents have more money than brains.
I disagree... you only think you know a road is deserted. Many deaths have been a result of ******** who thought they were in the clear ,no? And modified rice-boys don't make good drivers. Drifting? , high speeds, looking constantly in the rear mirror... give me a break. I'm competitive, but I don't race on the street. Hey, how about this.. next time you walk in a crosswalk and see another dude with some nike shox on, look him in the eye, wink and run off as fast as you can when the signal turns.
Then everyone can see that you are a super cool ****.

I agree with the others. Take it to the track.

I see this almost everyday here in FL. Kids racing on the streets with absolute disregard for others on the road.

I seem to recall I posted a thread a few months back about a fatal street race just blocks from my home. Unfortunately there have been others since then. Be safe, not stupid.

A "rash" of deaths in BC? What, 2, 3?

In Canada, there are nearly 3000 annual deaths from accidents on our roads, most a result of "driver error." My favorite? Gotta love the leading cause of motorcycle deaths - cars that turn left in front of oncoming motorcyclists in intersections because they "didn't see them."

A guy I used to ride with in our local group died that way, left behind a wife and kids. All because some brain-dead woman turning left in her SUV didn't "see him," even though he had the green and it was in broad daylight. What did she get? A citation, I guess his life was worth whatever fine she paid for being careless.

Yet we got all sorts of schmucks here buying some politicians line about all the horror and carnage of street racing, meanwhile not even outlawing cell phone use while driving as so many countries already have.

What a gullible bunch. Yeah, and speed kills too.

Well last Saturday after a drive around NH with fellow 8 owners I was driving back home. I was driving like my normal aggressive self (I'm a MA driver we are either aggressive or stupid drivers) but not overly so (as in no constant lane changing and go all the way to the far right lane just go move forward) just staying in the left hand lane and when someone wouldnt move I'd switch to the right lane and move on ahead.

So of course come one moments of the "Damnit why you doing 55mph and not in the right handed lanes!" I move to the middle lane and move on ahead then switch into the left lane in doing so I pass a minivan then a old old boxy accord. Awhile later I see that accord riding up my ****. He flashes his lights and I ignore him knowing what he wants and just laugh. Continuing to flash his lights and riding my *** I finaly get fed up I come on a open section of highway, I see that all 3 lanes are open and I put my blinker on and cut across all 3 lanes. I hide myself in traffic as a few major exits are coming up and the accord passes me by. I just shake my head this guy seriously wanted to race me in heavy traffic. Eventually I get fed up of the ultra slow 45mph driving and get back into the left lanes. I pass the accord once more and he gets behind me flashes his lights then crosses over 3 lanes of traffic and just guns it and I never see him again.

Honestly this kid was a moron.. this was heavy traffic on a major highway route, not no abandon side road or dead rt.

Anways.. I usualy ignore 'em. Though part of me feels flattered when they do wish to race, kind of a compliment if you will. Although most Evo and WrX owners I've ran into on the road have been arseholes in general. One decided to um rev at me while I was standing outside my car talking to a old friend, like honestly.. I was OUTSIDE my car?! Was he expecting me to jump into my car and chase him down to race?!?!?

Hence, keep it legal.

Another hence, the 8 can outperform those mustangs on any track.
keep it all the time above 5k or 6k rpms and you might actually beat one (mustang gt) if you had a long strech of road...... ???

To me I show some respect to fellow owners or either Evo's or WrX's and Z's I give the common nod if you to them but all I seem to get is a rev of "wanna race" or my infamous Evo driver giving me something like his hand waving infront of his face while driving by me in the oposing direction lol.

I get a lot of ppl wanting to race but I usually ignore them. I'm not trying to get a street racing ticket and loose my lic. Where I live you never know who's in the other car. I have seen State Police driving Jeep's, Camero's, Vette's, Porsche, 05 Mustangs and 06 Chargers....all unmarked and usually very dark tint. In the neighboring town the local cops team up every now and then and do a major sweep. Anyone who is driving a modified import or domestic gets stopped and written up for something.......lowered, exhaust, guages in drivers line of vision, etc. I have heard of them waiting for ppl to pull away from pumps at gas stations to stop them. I had something simular happen to me when I drove a civic. I was out with some friends one night (1 - 2 am) and we thought some guys were trying to breaking into a store. We called the cops and sat in a nearby parking lot. When the cops arrived we pulled up and spoke them. They said thanks and we began to leave. As I pulled out in the road one of them pulled up behind me and hit his lights. I asked why he stopped me and his reply was, "A honda is not supposed to sound like that." I replied, "How is a honda supposed to sound." Needless to say after I explained what happened to the judge he was nice enough to throw out the ticket. I used to be a cop in the military but what a di....

We disagree on a lot of things but I totally agree with you on this... Streetracers don't worry me nearly as much as the jackasses that constantly weave in and out of traffic. Or those people that are always on their cellphone, or putting makeup on, or more worried about their morning coffee than driving.

Last I saw, more people die each year from bicycle accidents than from streetracing. The difference is one doesn't make the front page of the local newspapers nor give a politician something to spout off about.

I'm certainly not condoning streetracing. However, it's not nearly the problem that the media, politicians, and sheep that believe the sensationalism would like us to believe.

I'm really kinda on the fence about this one. I know how unsafe it can be and how much of a bad idea it is. At the sametime I'm one of those people who routinely gun it at stoplights (not rev it to get someone's attention but just take off on green). Granted I'm not trying to race people nor do I go much more than 10 or 15 above the limit before dropping back down a little. I'm addicted to that feeling that comes from feeling the pull of accelerating at full throttle and feeling the impact of shifts. I do go to the track when I can but its nothing compared to just driving fast on the expressway because it lasts. Again I'm not going insanely fast just speeding 15-20 above the limit. Still, no matter where it is I tremble with excitement everytime I'm first in line at the red. Part of this probably has to do with having a semi-fast car (at least compared to my old hand-me-down blazer) and its just so much fun to do. I don't endorse racing but I can't help but get excited about it. But regardless of how much fun it is there are limits to what I'll do. If I gun it and see someone racing with me I still don't push it beyond 15 over. I may still be semi-young and inexperienced (even at 23) but I'm not the worst either...I stick to my limits.

END RANT/RAMBLE

Idiots in the making, rack ya pipes let em stand on it. My favorite memory was watching a guy next to me drop the hammer and watching his driveshaft go spinnining across the pavement as we eased away from the green light. lol we had no chance, neither did he.

If we start agreeing then this place would be no fun.

All this "believing the sensationalism" is the reason why insurers are seriously toying with the notion of putting "black boxes" into our cars to monitor our driving behaviors, or speed limiters, or a variety of other ideas.

Mark my words, we'll have insurers not insuring kids unless their cars are monitored or limited by the year 2010.

Scary huh, and all thanks to suckers who believe what the media and government feed us.

333 hp, even the last generation M3 with 240 hp would spank the 8 I would know since I used to own one. The RX8 is way overrated even at 232 hp.

Toying with? They already are. The owner's manual for my RX-8 says there's an event data recorder for crash analysis. The nature of the on-board computer and OBD-II makes that kind of thing easy. Just wait til they couple that with comm systems like OnStar.

But you know once they make the blackbox people will find ways to trick it. Its the computer age afterall. Someone will come out with a program to be loaded up to the car and wham your safe if you will. The blackbox our 8 has only keeps the record of the previous 8 seconds before the crash happens.

Oh and someone mentioned speedlimiters. That will never happen, local towns and states would lose millions each year from not being able to give out speeding tickets. lol.. the best comment recently was from my brother who is a police officer. I asked him about tint and he said it perfectly "For the most part we could give two ***** since all of us do it, just dont be a dick to us and we leave it alone." thats for those talking about police handing out tickets for modifications to their cars. But that doesnt protect you against those ultra dick cops.
