I'll race if challenged, but only on open highways, only in a straight-away, and only up to around 70mph. The speedlimit is 55mph and everyone goes at 70 anyway, so really where is the added harm? While racing I have strict concentration on my environment and everything I'm doing, I can guarentee I am less likely to cause a wreck accelerating to 70 while racing then your average driver cruising along at 70 and talking on the cell phone, or reading, or putting on make-up, or any of the other things I see people do everyday while driving. I'll wonder how many people looking down their nose at streetracers do those things while driving? Get off your soapbox!
I dont think everyone is on a soapbox...he asked and has been given a lot of opinions...on second thought, that's kinda what a forum is about anyway...It's really just a big soapbox for all of us...I do have a question though. If you only race to 70 and everyone was doing 70 anyway, exactly what speed do you slow down to to begin a race on the highway and do you really consider it safe to slow both cars down on the highway to set up for a race to 70?...actually that's two questions. Anyway, don't get me wrong, I like to race both of my cars, it just is foolish and dangerous to do it around traffic (which in a metro area you almost always have on the highway). I guess if I was on a long straight in the middle of east bumblefuck I'd probably go too...that just doesn't come up that often for me, and that's why I, personally prefer the track.

I agree with 4 years. Around here you are just going to see them at the next red light anyway. Then you get to really laugh hard at them. That seems to get under their skin. I just point and laugh. Does WAY more to lower their self esteem than spanking them in a race.

I forgot to mention that part rglbebl.

They really don't get anywhere faster when they have to stop and wait for a light.

Just like the Meet the Parents race back to the Focker's.

Racing is like having unprotected sex for the first time (wether its your Gf or whoever and they say "im on the pill" or not)
You sit here and say I will never do it.. thats so stupid...Then you get into the heat of the moment, and your like Eff it!..
Just like racing.. everyone sits here and goes Racing is stupid... then it comes time.. its 1am.. its a honda civic...highway is deserted... your like.. **** it.. even if you oly go 20km more and thats all you need to beat him... it was still a race..
me... i get no-one anting to race me.. i live in a small town of a population 40 000.. all we have here are kids that work at mcdonalds..80 percent of all cars i see in the summer are modded... cavilers.. sunfires, hondas, All have an exhaust... i see 1 or 2 350zs... but we all show each other respect and give the thumbs up to each other saying nice ride...... im to affraid to race anyone.. only becuase im not sure if my car would beat theres or not.:S i dont even know if our car and beat a 2002 Pontiac Grand am or not...

Yet we got all sorts of schmucks here buying some politicians line about all the horror and carnage of street racing, meanwhile not even outlawing cell phone use while driving as so many countries already have.
Exactly. Old people driving to slow are a big issue, overly defensive drivers that are upredictable are a big issue, people of their cell phones weaving in and out of their lane are a big issue, goobers in trucks that take forever to stop and can't turn are an issue, the guy/gal with their hand out the window and cigarette are an issue, huge SUV's that no-one can see around are an issue, goobers who don't know what a turn signal is are dangerous, distracted moms in their minivan are an issue.....

I don't know of anyone killed by a street racer. I do know of someone killed by one of the above.

BTW, people die on racetracks too.

For sure. If you get the chance, roll down the window and let them hear you laughing. Then compliment them on their car. Tell them how fast it is. Instead of making them feel good, they just get even more flustered. Then watch them accelerate off of that light just to get away from you.
Now, you have BEAT THEM without even needing an RX8 to do it.

I don't start racing in the middle of traffic. I wait to stop at a redlight. Its not that hard to catch one if you're trying.

Street racing is irresponsible. The fact that somebody else talks on a cell phone doesn't make it responsible. You know - that "two wrongs don't make a right" thing.

If you want to race, there are plenty of legitimate options to do some real racing with the grownups, instead of doing stupid things with the kiddies.

I know of several. When I was 12, I was nearly killed by some drunk jackass racing his buddy down the street.

It's a laugh that these losers say they're street "racing." Most of them don't know the first thing about racing. Do they think that merely stepping on a gas pedal makes them a "racer?"
