Is this a Fair Price for a Used RX-8 (Buying tomorrow 5/29)
Hey everyone ive been searching for used RX-8 since i totaled my Turbo Scion TC on Easter Sunday....
Ive found a bunch with high miles, but doing research id much rather have a lower milage one and i found one but the dealership did not budge on the price at all....
Heres the Story:
2004 Mazda RX-8 Ti-Gray 34K
Heated Leather Seats
6spd
Bose Sound
Sunroof
you know the rest....
anyway it was lsited at 15700, for memorail weekend 14300....
I haggled and haggled for 3 days and finally got them to do 13500 out the door....
now is this a fair price or are they being rediculous with my second highest offer of 13200 out the door?
Thanks for all your help and advice....

uhh I'm no expert... but 15700 is a RIP OFF. The new price is a little more fair. But in this economy, You could probably get better. I'm not sure I'd get an 04 either. They have had quite a bit of issues, most recalled... but still Your best bet is an 06 or later if you can afford it. There are a lot for sale on here. I'm not sure I'd jump the gun on this one. Might want to wait a bit longer....

Ive been searching for a month now, they just are not for sale around me or within 100 miles with the lower miles im looking for....i see on the car fax all the recalls have been dealt with...but i dont have the money for an 06 or i would....
I figured with the economy i would be able to work a good deal i thought wrong, id have a better off chance working a better deal on a new car then a used RX8 from what im coming across....
Im really in need of a car ive been without one for a month and a half now looking for the right car and i feel like this is it

I'd say that's a pretty decent price for a GT *I think it's a GT..* You're not getting ripped off, but it isn't the best price you could get. I'd say if you need the car, I wouldn't feel bad about getting it. Just make sure you get a carfax and make sure the car has all the TSB's and services done to it.

If it helps, mine is an 05 AT. It has 9k more miles but I got mine for $13.5. Feel like I got a good deal but I'm not sure the same price for an 04 MT is all that great. It's not a ripoff in my opinion, and I'm sure it looks good compared to $15.7k but it's not a steal either. I had to go over 150 miles in my search for a clean one with low miles. It was worth it.
+1 on a carfax or vincheck.

I think im going to do the deal tomorrow, i really like the car, i test drove 5 of them in total, 3 with leather and 2 with cloth interior ive been wanting leather and the color is TI-Gray which i wanted that or white....
I hate dealing with dealerships too, but buying from a private seller is as is and im not really feeling that....
also i asked to see the inventory sheet on how much they own the car for and what it shows is 13,600 but to me i feel like they are showing me a bogus sheet....

Or you could get into a Supercharged RX-8 for just a bit more....

Second thought, 13.5 out the door isn't that bad, assuming that out the door covers taxes and fees (that's what it means to me). I bought mine for 13.5 but when I got to DMV to register it, I had to pay almost another $400 in taxes and fees. So, really mine was 13.9 OTD. Spent another hundred or so replacing the squealy front brake pads and getting an oil change but she's like new right now. Daughter and mom just took it out for a drive.
I'm not sure which I enjoy more, driving it or watching it go down the street with those 18's spinning. Actually, yes I do know which. But it's still hot looking driving away from me.

As a someone who has been in the business over 10 yrs I say that you tell them you will buy right now CASH for 13,500 out the door. Even if you have to finance it thats still okay.

Not a rip off at all with those miles and that trim.
It's not rock bottom, either, but then again, what price do you put on peace of mine knowing the car is a one owner and was kept in good maintenance?
That's worth a lot, IMO.
That's why I keep every receipt, service record, and every other record, all neatly filed.

Not ideal, but OK. Only concern is how many miles were put on the engine with a suboptimal OMP flash. IMHO, best to buy low mileage with as few miles before the mid-2006 recall flash. By way of comparison, I bought my 2006 last year with only 9k miles for $17.5k, and that was before the economy went south. If you look around some more, you can do better. But I know how it is when you really want a car. Good luck!

That said, Svic, I guarantee you in 3, 5, or whatever number of years down the road you decide to sell it it won't matter whether your out-the-door was $13,200 or $13,500. Buy the model and color your heart desires and enjoy what is a fabulous driving experience.
