In Oklahoma, they tell you that if you don't intend to use it, you shouldn't have it ANYWHERE in your car at all, which tells me it'd probably work even if it was strapped to your muffler. Hadn't thought about painting one black, but yeah, when I get my RX-8 I'm not gonna strap an ugly white box in the middle of my windshield.

I just used some black Rustoleum paint I had laying around. I did mask off the bar code first, then when it was dry I covered that area with black electrical tape so it was all black. I put it up in the black dots area behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side and it's virtually invisible!
Oh BTW, I was told at a meet that it is now JDM ... yo!

keep my work parking garage thing in my sunglasses holder, and my apartment parking clicker in my cupholder. they are both fairly small objects though, guess im lucky.

I went to Pep Boys, at the checkout they have EZ Pass Holders for about $5. They suction cup to the windshield so you can take them down easily to stow it when not needed. I find it easier to take on and off than the locking tape that comes with the tag. Bonus is that the holder is black, no painting needed. I put mine behind the mirror too.

I have mine mounted just to the right of the rearview mirror, on the black screening on the windshield so you can't see it from the outside.
If/when I trade the car the two velcro strips go with the car.

EVERYONE check this out! i found the ultimate solution...
one day while changing my maplights to LED's, i noticed that there was a pretty big, hollow area up where the maplight unit generally goes... this was at the same time as i was looking for a place to put my 'Fast-Lane' and all of a sudden i had the idea.
As you can see, I simply slipped my fast-lane transponder right into the little area ahead of the maplight unit, and it fits pretty snugly... I was afraid it might rattle, so i was gonna wrap it in a paper towel, but i forgot to do it... and even with a pretty loud sub i havent noticed ANY rattling or bad side effects! last i checked, it was still in the exact same position and hasnt like slid to the side or anything...
Check the pictures for a better explanation...
A lot of you are probably saying "wow, good idea, but not really.... the metal of the car would block the signal" and i thought so too... so my first time through the toll, i went really slowly to give it all the time it needed.... and it worked! some times it gives me the yellow and not green, which either means 'low reception' or 'refill of account', but it always works, even at like 25 mph! So now i have my fastlane perfectly hidden away with FULL functionality... and ive become very adept at removing my maplight unit, so if i have to get it out for some reason, it'll only take me like a minute.
Enjoy!
P.S. - if you want to know how to remove the maplight unit the RIGHT way without any forceful prying or pulling, check out my DIY here. once you get the hang of it, it only takes like a minute and there's no possibility for damage or anything...

you guys have tolls where you can only go 25mph???!?
I feel for you, here in texas we can blow through the tolls at 70+ without any issues.
and for the record, I mounted my tolltag behind the mirror on the black dots on the passenger side. Fits perfectly in there and you never notice it.

It's easy to pull off and stash in the glovebox when you park, if you want to. In NY you can also opt for another version that goes on your front license plate frame, leaving your windshield clear. But the windshield mount works for me, plus I wonder if the license plate mount would be too easy to steal.
Ditto.

Here in CA you can drive through those things as fast as you want!
1145climber: Pretty cool idea! I cheated and just took the transponder out of my car completely. I make the bastards work a little and just bill me by my plate #.

i am going to put my ipass transponder in the center of the dash the next time i open it up so it's completely out of sight. i have my antenna for my navigation and sirius in there and they work fine. i'm thinking it should also work because it will only be covered by the thin plastic which is the dash. it's extra work taking everything apart but i have to anyway for something else. i just wanted other people's thoughts on this before i did it and tried it because i didn't want any problems with the illinois tollway.

Useful thread resurrection. I mount mine in the official position, up behind the mirror. But I made a cover for it out of an old black sock. Gray car, black interior, it's hardly noticed.
I tried the old "Hold it up when you approach the toll" trick, but that failed one night when I didn't hold it up soon enough for that particular lane. Forutnately, it was 2 AM, no other traffic around, so the attendant came out of the manned booth to chew me out. After hearing my excuse of new car, no velcro, he gave me a set of velcro strips.
For the people incredulous about low speed booths... On the east coast, where a lot of EZ-Pass lanes are just regular toll booths, limits of 15 to 25 mph are common. 10 mph for those booths where they still have the gates. Even the handful of high speed lanes are officially placarded at 55 mph.

some booths like Holland Tunnel has speed limit of 5 mph ... my friend tried to run thru it at 15 one time and he got a summon about 1-2 weeks later. rofl.

Two tips…
1) If you mount it while sitting in your normal driving position, you can position it 'just so' — so that it's invisible, completely blocked from your view by the rear-view mirror.
2) I spray painted mine flat black (masking the section with info on it). So from outside the car, you hardly notice it! Do this and you'll wonder why they didn't make them all black instead of white. (I'm sure they didn't give "appearance" any thought.)

Now I remember the 5 mph at the Holland Tunnel. Went through there last week. (Alternate route to avoid the Goethals.) That's one with a gate, isn't it? If you go much faster you'll take the gate out.
