Fcd

As we know the rx8 is not great on gas mpg. I have a highlander hybrid and it has several mpg display modes, one of which is FCD (fule consumption display). Unlike a mpg display the fcd lets you know excactly what your current mpg reading is, be it coasting, wot, or just 2k rpm in top gear.

wondering if anyone with a rx8 has added an after market fcd to their car? on a recent thread about getting good mpg someone had a link to a 'mother earth?' article that talked about a fcd so that made me think about it. maybe the metia.net site, or other, had a link on a after market fcd device but I did not locate it on that site nor info about one on this site either.

so...if you have added one and it works please advise of product name. realize we won't get a zillion mpg and it is a sports car, just the same it might be neat to see what effect different driving styles has on the mpg and a fcd would allow that.

I think some of the OBD diagnostic tools will measure fuel consumption. Not positive though as I don't own one.

ScanGauge II does it for me - mpg AND litres or gallons per hour (so it even measures when idling.

Mounted on the column in front of the tach.

if you know what you're doin WHILE you're driving, you can maximize each tank. i drive 120 miles a day nearly, and if i had that monitor i could easily tell where i'd want to set my cruise

All those monitors can tell you, really, is what injectors are open for how long and how it compares to the odometer. That's how it measures, and it's not a terrible system but it leaves out several factors which affect MPG. Fortunately, by searching this forum, you can find which injectors come online at what RPM, so just watch your tach and set your cruise control below that number and you don't need it. I'd tell you what that number is but I can't remember it exactly and I don't want to mislead you.
