FD RX-7 vs RX-8

Im not sure if someone ever compare a mazda with a mazda, but if not, here's the chance.

If Mazda or Ford, should I say, put a twin turbo on the RX-8.....which one would you pick, base on performance or known stats(since the RX-8 hasn't come out yet) and look.

The RX-8 with a twin turbo....or
the Rx-7 with a twin turbo

If the RX-8 had forced induction it could probably beat the FD in a drag race.

On a road course it's up in the air. We don't know anything about the handling characteristics of the RX-8.

As far as looks the FD3S RX-7 is the best looking car ever made. I like the RX-8 a lot, but it's no FD!

Why does almost every person think Mazda IS Ford?

Nobody thinks Nissan is Renault, or Subaru is GM or Mitsubishi is DaimlerChryler.

Mazda's situation is the same as those listed above, if even less controlled than those listed. Yet everyone says Mazda, I mean Ford, or Ford RX-8. Why is that? You don't hear Renault Maxima or Renault 350Z, or Dodge Eclipse.

Mazda is still an independent company, only that Ford holds just enough share of its stock as to have a say on its board of directors. That is all. Mazda is not even close to 100% owned by Ford, yet I hear this all the time.

I don't want to buy a Mazda, I'm mean, its just a Ford, so it must be a piece of junk.

Ugggg.....this is the biggest problem. People think Mazda's are simply rebadged Fords through and through, so they think they are junk, when the opposite is true (except of course for the Truck and Tribute, which really are more or less a Ford).

Sorry for the rant, but this is starting to drive me nuts.

Mazda IS NOT Ford.

Thank You.

I would chose the RX-8 I think.. depending on the difference in the insurance costs. The 7 only has 2 seats right? But if money was no object the RX-7 R1 version by far. Max performance! :D

Whats so bad about ford? I think Ford is the best american car out there, and mazda just heads and shoulders above Ford in most departments, id like to think of Mazda as a Japanese car company with the assets of Ford. nuff said

Well said! With this thinking, a Jaguar is a Crown Vic with a jumping-cat logo on the front! :D

I would take an 8 over the 7. Mainly for practicality.

I think the 8 will surprise most everyone with it's capabilities. I've said it before in a few other threads, and I'll say it again. I really believe that the RX-8 will be very similar in feel to a 911. I'm not saying it will be as fast or luxurious as a 911, but a Mazdaspeed 8 could be a Porsche killer.

And I for one, would love to see that.

If Mazda puts a turbo in the RX8, I hope that they don't make the same mistake of putting in a twin setup, with all of the resulting reliability issues it had/has. It would be a mistake, IMHO.

Besides, if a "performance" version came out, I would expect it to be another RX7 instead of a turbo-ed RX8. But then again, my crystal ball never quite worked right.

i (being 19 and all...) would DEFINITELY pick the FD... turbos or not, i don't give a crap... i'd probably mod it to be more RELIABLE without sacrificing too much speed (i wouldn't really care too much, as it's already so fast... waaaaaaay faster that i could handle/need).

oh, and Sputnik, why don't we ask Boowanna?? his even says "RX-8" right on it... :D

RX-7 will out perform the RX-8 because it's turbocharged engine had more torque. The RX-7 also has one of the most beautiful interiors and exteriors of any car, ever. The RX-8 also has a most modern and beautiful interior and a most innovative exterior, especially when you consider this is a 4 door 4 seater.

Gimmie my RX-8 now!!

I'm sure the RX-7 would beat the RX-8 in a straight line, but you and 3 friends can take the RX-8 out to the twisties and wave good-bye to lesser cars.

And Mazda is in good company; Ford controls Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, and Aston Martin...
