Fellow tall people! How do you fit with your sunroof?

I've decided that absolutely no other car will do, and I will be purchasing an RX-8 very shortly. However, I'm 6'4" tall. This has caused me to bump the headliner of many a sports car, including the usual suspects - Miata, S2K, Boxster, etc.

Those of you whose heads scrape the clouds please enlighten me, am I going to have trouble with a sunroof? I could definitely live without one, but the chances of me finding a car with both DSC and a solid roof seem to be slim. Thanks in advance.

I'm also 6'4", and I also had a sunroof. It always takes awhile for me to find a good seating position in any car, but the RX-8 took longer. Once I figured things out, I just barely fit in the car. My hair would always get messed up on the roof, but it was worth it.

I'm 6'2" and with the seat reclined more then I've done in previous cars I fit comfortably with ample head room. I also have the electric seats and have them all the way to the floor, not sure if i'd fit with the lower end ones.

im 6'3" and i fit nicely with a sunroof in my 3-seater rx-8.

in the rx-8 it really depends what type of tall you are more legs/more torso. go to a dealer and try one with an electric seat and one with out. you should be able to get in there.

I'm 6'2" and when I sat in the models with the sunroof, my head scrubbed the head liner. I bought a 04 Sport model that didn't have the sunroof and came with DSC. I can wear a helmet in this car without hitting the liner.
I personally could do without the DSC.

I would advise to definetely NOT get a sunroof if you're 6'4". Yes you can probably make it fit but you'll compromise a good driving position to do it especially if you autocross or do HPDE. I'm 6'0 and with my comfortable driving position and a helmet on I rubbed the roof occasionally with the seat all the way down.

Plus the sunroof on these cars are hideous, glass that slides up over the roof? Come on, it's not the early 90's anymore.

wtf you talking about 90% of your cars are like that to this day... the really "classy" rides like higher end BMWs, Lexuses, etc go in between the roof and the interior roof, but thats a 50-60k car versus a 30k car...

i'm 6'4" and i have a sunroof in my car. I fit perfect... and i really wouldn't want to do without it either. It's a good addition to the car. I've had quite a few cars before and after not having one before i would say that i wouldn't want to get another without one. i don't bump my head at all, and i have a comfortable ride.

A lot of people complain about the Rx-8's sunroof design, but did you notice the abundance of headroom in the back seat? Try sitting in a G35 coupe, which has the classy in between roof design, I'll bet you will knock your noggin.

I'm 6'4" and fit a-ok. If you are going to be wearing a helmet at any time, I'm not quite sure that will work, though.

6'5 here, 215lbs, loong legs (36' inseam) and I fit perfectly. Like others have said you'll have to play with the seat a bit to find that perfect spot, but once you do it's all good.

Never sat in the back of a G35C, and don't want to. The RX-8 sunroof design is still stupid and ugly so I skipped on it. Besides who cares about passengers in the rear anyways. I prefer to have 100 miles of headroom and only 1 passenger so now all 3 of our cars are 2 seater convertibles

First off, my memory has gotten a little fuzzy since I bought my car 2.5 years ago. However, I seem to remember there being a difference in headroom depending upon whether you were in the GT with the power driver seat and the other trim with cloth/manual seat plus sunroof. I recall that the power seat can go lower to give you more headroom.

Nevertheless, I'm 6'2" and agree with what's been said. You are borderline without a helmet, depending on your body type/torso height. You will be compromised with a helmet.

Cheers

pick which one you want to keep after you accidentally knock your g/f up and have to haul a kid around

I'd probably just drive the Elise off a cliff with the S2000 and Miata towed behind it

it depends on several thing s- but mostly on whether you are leg tall or trunk tall. ive seen a couple guys who were only 6'2 ish but were very trunk tall have problems stiing int he car. but others as has been stated above are leg tall so they fit. get in a car, adjust the seat height all the way down and then try it. if you think you will hit the moon roof with the helmet on - OPEN THE MOON ROOF

seriously i would rather have the moonroof open out like it does than have them compromise the chassis rigidity by removing the support in the roof just so the thing can slide in

You should sit in it and see. But I agree with the others--I'm 6'2" tall, and my hair brushes against the ceiling. I can't fit in it with a helmet.

I'm 6'9" tall, 240 lb. with a shaved head. (The lack of hair saves at least an inch on headroom for those wondering why I posted that).

When I bought my 8 back in '03, I tried to sit in one with a sunroof, leather, electric seats but I could not position myself to fit without the head at a 45 degree angle. They did not have the electric leather seat option without a sunroof (or I didn't want to wait for one to be made...I forget) so I opted for the sport model with a performance package including fog lights and DSC and of course a 6MT.

Anyway, my head does touch the roof every once in a while...I have to reposition often. Occasionally I will hit my head getting out of the car, only when I'm tired or not paying attention. Really the best part is watching people watch me get out of my car. They are like "YOU got out of THAT car". I love my 8. No other sports car could do that for the money, or do that period.

There is also no way that I could wear a helmet for any AutoX or track events

Well, just wanted to let you know that you can be VERY tall and still fit in the 8.

My $0.02

I was just talking to someone yesterday about how happy I am that I'm only 5'9" and fit comfortably in my car. I let a 6'5" co-worker sit in my car and his comment was "I'm too tall for this car."

Now you know why all those hoop stars drive SUV's.
