Fender Strakes different sizes?

Alright, well I have a question for those who have fender strakes

I've been looking at getting the stainless steel strakes off ebay from howardfb for a while now, but I've noticed one thing I think... the stainless steel strakes look to be a lot thinner than the OEM ones. From looking at the pictures, the ones on ebay seem thinner when looking at it from the sides than the OEM strakes and although the ebay one's are more "flash" they don't seem to bring the appearance that strakes usually bring out.

Can anyone help me out please, thanks!

Lol, I know that, but I mean, theres the OEM from Mazda set, then DLS Custom's set, and now the guy on ebay selling the stainless steel set.

Here's links to the pictures of those who've bought from him, it seems as though the strakes are not as thick as stock ones?

Ok, then I'm not going to go for them because in those pictures, they really don't bring out the appearance that the stock ones do in my opinion.

So where am I able to order some of the stock strakes? I know DLS has them, but he told me it will take around 6-7 weeks in order to get them because he's so bogged down with requests.

What's the other cheapest place to buy these?

Those definitely look thinner, HardHitter.

I wish Dennis wasn't so backordered. He told me 6-8 weeks as well and I don't want to wait that long.

As they said- those ebay ones are thinner, but in my opinion they still look great for the price. I know Dennis made his by building a mold around the OEM ones, but he's definitely got a lot of orders to fill yet. If you want to get the OEM ones, Tommy at Rosenthal has them for $195- cheaper than most dealers, but still expensive for 4 hunks of aluminum:

I can't imagine my car without them though... they really add needed definition to the fenders of dark colored '8s, especially black.

$195?? Wow, that's ridiculous. Yep, I agree that the strakes add a good touch to the look of the car (even if Ike says they are 'rice'). I just installed mine recently and love the way they look.

I have changed my strakes for stainless steel one's, They are a bit thinner but far better quality, And they will last a lot longer than the two months I've just got out of the OEM ones,
IMHO aluminum is a waist of time, If you let it go anywhere near salt.
So thats England out.

Are you sure you had authentic OEM strakes? I've had mine through two Chicago winters, where the city uses liberal amounts of road salt to melt the snow and ice... 4 months out of each year my strakes are exposed and coated by salt, yet mine look like they're still brand new... no pitting or tarnishing.

YES,I can post pic's if you wish.
I've had a good look at them and it's the sharp edge where they are the worst, That could be lack of lacquer, but also have pitting on the rest.

That sucks... sounds like a manufacturing defect- if nothing else I would make Mazda replace them under warranty and then sell the replacement set on this forum or eBay.

I've also replaced my oem ones with the stainless ones and have to agree that the quality is excellent. The are very slightly thinner but not much.

The fit is as good as the Mazda ones and they are less than half the price over here.

If I can find the originals I'll post a side by side pic.
