Cool A few questions about the 8

I just purchased a 04 rx8 6 speed and I need to know all the little things to make sure it works properly everyday.. i"ve heard you have to rev the motor to 3500 before you shut it off. Is that true? Also I have heard that it has a flooding problem and if it wont start then you have to floor the gas and crank it and it will start up fine.. Is that true? also can you give me some more tips about the 8 anything just to keep it in good shape.

Nope, both of those are wrong.

You only have to rev it up before shutting it down if the engine isn't warmed up. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

If the car is flooded, you have to take it to the dealer.

Tip- carry some oil in the truck. Check the oil every 2nd oil change or so.

Chaseevans was right about flooring the throttle and cranking to start a flooded engine . Taking to the dealer is the absolute last resort .
BTW - I have repeatedly tried to flood mine (just to see if I can) over the past 2 yrs and have never managed to do it .

Also : Check oil every 2nd tank of gas is what I think you meant to say , right ?

Yes, every 2nd tank of gas is what I mean.

It's late.

Owner since Aug 2003. I've never used any special voodoo tricks to try and prevent flooding and it has never happened to me.

Supposedly the flooding problem was contained with a recall that gave you a bigger battery/new starter, but I've always revved it to 3k and never flooded. I figure if it ain't broke...

Welcome to the rotary world and an awesome forum. Everything you could ever want to know about the 8 is right here in this forum. Reaper1 is correct when he stated to search the threads and stickys before you ask a lot of questions. Most subjects have already been thoroughly discussed , and people (not me) like to flame on reposts.

Welcome!

mine has never flooded once even with trying to do so.

I don't rev to 3500rpm like the owners manual says just because it's doubtful you'll engine will flood anyways.

Just make sure you redline a few times a day to keep the carbon lock-up away.....

Actually, the need to redline a few times a day is an urban myth concocted by us owners to remind us to just enjoy the car for all it is worth - from what I have heard from technicians, the only thing the redline practice does is to make sure that the grin stays firmly affixed to your face while you drive your car.

Considering the fact that it's a rare time that my car is driven without visiting "Mr. Beep" as I like to call the redline buzzer, I can safely report that my grin is still in place, and I'm quite sure that if this practice does have carbon removal benefits, then my engine doesn't have a lick of it in there!!!

Take a quick search over the last few days for posts from other new owners - I have a list of "things to know about your RX-8" that I post up - look for that. Also read the stickies.

I have an '04 MT6 GT - very few problems, other than I am incapable of walking away from the car without turning back to it and looking at it again.
