The final slowdance. Thanx everyone!
I'm gonna try to break the whole cliche of the sob stories about how i've battled the thoughts about selling the 8 and whatnot, so i think i'll just make it known.
After a year an 1/2 run with this car, some life changes have unvoluntarily forced it out the door. (house, engagement, practicality). As much as i'd like to give the classic gas mileage excuse, I can honestly say that it didn't bother me.
Refused to accept $15K for it form a dealer, so I sold it on autotrader for $20K to a mid-50's fella from Michigan. He picked the car up yesterday and drove it on out of my life. Funny how you never notice how nice the car looks until you see it in motion; I was surprised. Maybe it was just my depressed side realizing the harsh reality...I won't be seeing i again.
As for a replacement, I'm probably on my way back to a V8 again, few SN95 Cobras i'd looked at and one i'm pretty serious about in Illinois. I'll never even try to foolishly fabricate the truth that no car i've ever driven has handled like this, nor was it quite as much fun to drive. On my way out, I can't help but state the obvious that a little more umph wouldn't have hurt the car, but that said, is hardly the reason it's gone. Lets see...$600 car payment for less then $200? Kinda hard to imagine such a difference.
Anyhow, I'll miss a good number of you guys. The infinate knowledge that is RotaryGod, the "Good Jobs" from NoTears, the unsurpassed avatars from MazdaManiac, Track racing info from BlueRenesis, and even in some odd way, I'll even miss Ike's love/hate comments. There's a whole list of you guys who have helped me through so much of my RX8 questions, and for those I missed, thanx a million guys.
I'll still stop in from time to time to see what's new, so don't hate on me too much :-) Even though I don't have an 8 anymore, there's still a part of me that feels at home here. Thanx for everything guys.

26 years ago, I had to do the exact same thing with my beloved '80 RX-7, for almost the exact same reasons. I have walked your path. Just remember, good things will come to those who wait. You could very well be driving another rotary rocket one of these days. I had to wait all these years but I did get another turn, you will, too.
Good luck, S21!

Thanx for all the kind words, everyone makes this easier to accept
nah, actually i said that it DIDNT really bother me. but since it was brought up, my other 97 Cobra vert gets 26 average on the highway so i'm not all that concerned with it...one way or the other
At RA, I'm sure i'll be burnin on the straights, but won't be surprised to see you flyin by me on the curves...which are seemingly almost everywhere on RA should be interesting...
As long as you don't mind an american V8 in your group, i'd still love to join you on your next RA conquest! Lemme know when it's comin!

Just about the results I was expecting on here.
However, I must correct...it's a Cobra. May be under the Mustang name, but it's not even in the same performance catgory. I'd never buy any ford product UNDER the Cobra name...which pretty much rules out anything other then a Ford GT.
Personal preference after having already owned both an RX-8 and a 97 Cobra at the same time. The 8 was tight in the turns and looked a lot better, but for gobs of torque at a 1/3 of the monthly payment...its just the feasable route i'm going. I loved the 8 for what it was, and love the Cobras for what they are. Each of them have their ups and downs. But for almost triple the price right now, the 8 just isn't quite within means for me

true...any full blooded american knows that the true term of Cobra will always live in at the 427 Shelby's that were about the size of a go-cart.
Its certainly a heck of a lot more of a Cobra then those Cobra II's were back in the 70s lol

Yeah, it took me about a week to sell the 8, but there were a few factors that made it so quick. Even with these factors...he still was one of the only people that ever contacted me. Feel like i got a little lucky...
It wasn an 05 GT with all options minus nav, 20K miles even, came with a $500 garmin GPS nuvi and a set of winter rims with pert near brand new winter tires (worth about $1K). I was originally asking $20K for it all then advertised it for $19K without the rims. Like 2 days after I dropped the price, this guy called in within 5 minutes on the phone, pretty much told me "I'm gonna buy your car". Little more then a week total.
Although speed wasn't a main concern, being able to add a bit more for less money was a focus once the car was sold. The only 2 downfalls I honestly had with the 8 was these 2 things: not enough headroom for me to sit straight up without slouching (I'm 6'1") and then just the overall lack of torque. It could usually make up for it once you ran up to 5-6K, but I suppose i'm just impatient lol.
Headin out to probably pick the above cobra up tomorrow from Illinois
I really actually had my eyes on a GTO, but those were still in the high teens to low 20's...a good amount more then my range i was shootin for. However, their overall bland apperance helped me out of that decision as well
