Finally got my 8! Impressions and questions

05 Silver RX8 GT Manual. Sorry for the crap phone cam image:

Impressions:

My previous car was a 95 miata. I loved her very much and I was sad to sell her. But its a fleeting feeling since I got my 8

1. Its plenty fast for me. I wasnt looking for something with awesome strait line performance. Plus the other cars that had it (EVO, STI) looked far to boxy and rally like. If I was 18 they I would have bought one of those, but i'm 27 and I wanted something fast, but elegant.

2. Speaking of elegant, this is the perfect car for pulling up to a fancy restaraunt in. Smooth lines, easy on the eyes, agile yet practical. Not obnoxious in the least!

3. I was worried about space for my passengers, but I managed to fit 4 full sized adults in there with a good amount of comfort for all (and im 6'2"!). Very impressed!

4. Handling is amazing. Responsive, smooth and easy to control. I've done a couple of small slides and the DSC/TSC made it feel very safe for me to do them. Being almost completly surrounded by air bags also helps.

5. My friends are all impressed

6. Wish the butt warmers just got a bit warmer, and the lumbar support would protrude a bit more.

Now a few questions:

1. My TPI light was on when I bought the car. The sales guy said it would go off after 15 miles because they had to reset something. The tires are not low. It sounded kinda fishy to me but im not familiar with the computer cels. Its been 100 miles and the light is still on. I'm taking it in of course, but any ideas on whats going on?

2. Theres a light rattle coming from the drivers side b-pillar. It kinda comes and goes. Putting the radio on low drowns it out but i was wondering if anyone had any similar rattles from that area?

3. When im coming to a stop and I shift from 1st to N I hear almost a secondary "winding down" sound. I wanna say its the flywheel but I just want to be sure.

4. The exhaust tips have some black buildup from where the condensation drips from. Whats the best product for keeping them clean?

TIA!

Good choice, I love the RX8, even though, I own an Evo. I didn't look at the RX8 when I bought the Evo, or things would have been a bit different.

Overall, enjoy, great choice.

Congrats on ur 8 and welcome to the club!

1. Have the dealer check the TPI alert.
2. Unfortunately, the RX-8 isn't a bmw or lexus or infiniti. So, u can't expect that kind of perfection. I own a bmw also, and so I've noticed my new 8 has some tiny, random squeaks & rattles as well. Not too big a deal- but definitely not up to luxury car standards.
3. Are u sure it just isn't the unique sound of the rotary engine? I've noticed it has its own personality. As u drive it some more, u'll be able to tell what's normal and what's abnormal.
4. Some good soap & water when u wash her does the trick. The Mr. Clean Autodry carwash system is a really great product.

What options did u get?

Nice car! I have a 2005 Sunlight Silver Grand Touring too! :D

I have a rattling coming from my left door. Other than that, very quiet ride, just wish I could get the rattling resolved. :'( I mainly hear it on bumps in the road or whenever I'm listening to a song. All it takes is a tiny amount of bass to get it to rattle.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from the door.... :-/

1. Had that too. The dealer fixed it without hassle.
2. If you don't have a rattle, you don't drive an RX-8. Welcome to the club!

My car has rattles... just minor ones you hear when the audio volume level is set to 5. This use to drive me nuts.... From what I hear, everyone has squeaks and rattles... some worse than others... fortunately mine is just a minor kind . However, things changed to the better........

Since the day I have installed my REVi/ramduct and Trust cat back exhaust... I am too often distracted by the glorious rotary soundtrack. I drive with the windows down whenever I enter a tunnel or just cruising about and go WOT. It is unbelievable what this car does for exhaust tone/ character. Mini F1 engine complete with howling and pops... I love it!

This car is so much more than just niggles and rattles. Just learn to live with it... this car is meant to be driven just like a true sportscar should. IT is not a luxury car... it is better than a luxury car... this car has soul... this car is awesome.

I never got my minor rattles fixed... one day I'll do it myself... maybe one day.... some day....

If I could get the LOUD rattle fixed in the driver's door, I would be very happy.

I will consider taking it to the dealer, and pray to god they make things better than worse. :S

What is the pressure in your tires? The 8 will have the light come on if there is to much or too little air pressure. The dealer was probally hoping the tires would warm up a bit after 15 minutes and the light would go off.

There is a thread here that describes what you have, just do a search if this one doesnt fix it for you.

Normal

Soap will work for a bit, but I use a billet metal polish available at any automotive store. I personally use Mothers billet cleaner, others use never dull and have praised it alot.
