Finally Had It with the 8

Finally Had It with the 8
So after two and a half years and 36,000mi I finally reached the breaking point. My 8 was good in the beginning...when I hit 28K the car started the downhill slide. First the throw-out bearing caused the flywheel and clutch to fail then the CD changer, then the Nav unit, then the gas and exhaust in the cabin then the 1st and 2nd gear notchiness. Took it in the last time and took the loaner car to the nearby Acura dealer where I know the owner. Drove the TSX, RDX, TL 6sp and auto. The RDX is cool but too expensive, the TSX was zippy but needs more power. Got the TL with navi. So far the car is about 80% the 8 handling and power wise. I am amazed by all of the technology bits on this car, and fot the same $ that I spent on the 8. The stereo makes the 8 sound like crap. I did get the auto b/c the stick had way too much touque steer, I've had mostly front drive before the RX-8 and this one was too touchy with the stick, the tiptronic style auto is still very fast but the torque steer is almost non existent. I also notice that the front drive habit of "pushing" in corners is nicely modulated.
That said I wish that the 8 was put together better, I will miss the car but not the visits to the service department. Its always bad news when the while service department know you by name and groan when you pull into the drive.
KUDOS to GALPIN in SCV....Kevin Barthel and Michael Holland ROCK.....they are the only reason that I kept it so long...

Did you change your MT fluid? A lot of folks on this board have been *delighted* with the improvement when changing to synthetic and there's a great DIY. At 36,000 miles it wouldn't be wasteful to change it, especially if you feel notchiness.
As for the NAV and CD - weren't those covered under warrenty? Everything breaks eventually.
As for the throw-out bearing, flywheel and clutch - Darkrose's services Mazdas and he didn't like the sound our throw-out bearings make when we let the clutch out in neutral. We met at a meet and listened to a couple of different cars and they're all the same. Again, all that should have been warrenty so why the fuss?
Get it fixed free. One of my former supervisors had a lemon Camry - there ain't no perfect cars man.

It's weird how some people have all kinds of troubles and after 30K miles of autoX ,track driving, hard driving and drifting my 8 hasn't had a single problem yet............(pauses).........(quitley knocks on wood)

I think the most shocking thing is that the throw-out bearing caused so many failures in what I thought were completely un-related systems! I knew that the car's computer had its hands in just about everything, but this is ridiculous!

**** like 'my leather seats wrinkle too easily', 'the paint is too soft', etc... Sound familiar?
I liked the TL though, too bad it wasn't rear wheel drive.

Yeah and what's up with the

This is a forum. People should be allowed to express their opinions and experiences. He didn't come in here and say "wtf 0mgz0rz i c@n't pWn Ev0's wit d1s 8 i ju$t g0t!11!!!" He got a car with a ton of service issues and was put off by it.
This is the real problem here. It's not people complaining about nothingness (which definitely happens). It's the people who refuse to acknowledge anything bad could possibly ever happen to this car unless you're an idiot and don't know how to drive.
