Finally Had It with the 8

As for the NAV and CD - weren't those covered under warrenty? Everything breaks eventually.
As for the throw-out bearing, flywheel and clutch - Darkrose's services Mazdas and he didn't like the sound our throw-out bearings make when we let the clutch out in neutral. We met at a meet and listened to a couple of different cars and they're all the same. Again, all that should have been warrenty so why the fuss?
Get it fixed free. One of my former supervisors had a lemon Camry - there ain't no perfect cars man.

second, why should the ENTIRE nav unit have to be replaced only 2 years after the car was purchased?
the noise wasn't the problem, the throw out bearing freezing on the output shaft and splitting in two then causing the clutch and flywheel to wear to the rivits in a matter of seconds....NOT COOL,
Yes all of these are covered but there is no reason that I should have to tow a car from 35 miles away when it is only 2 years old, and the car spent more time in the shop than in my posession in the past two months, AND I made the last three payments when the car ws in the shop while driving a loaner....not why I spent 35K on a NEW car...
Also, just because all of the cars are noisy doesn't make it right!

oh and to all of you smart asses....these are the kind of "issues" that i would have liked to know before I bought the car, I didnt beat the car up and its not my problem that the car was built like a FORD... so all of you that want to flame me and spend all day being dicks....enjoy your issues....
Oh and the PLUMMETING resale values when everyone else figures out what a pile the car is>

Things go wrong in every car. I had two Merkurs that by consumer reports were horrible cars. Both had problems. Both went to 150K. Both were driven hard by me. Some of the problems were stupid manufacturer errors. The XR4TI had a fine transmission that was mounted 1.5" too far back in the car and couldn't handle the turbo power. Synthetic trans fluid, and a pair of scissors to chop a hole in the transmission stick shift passthru fixed all of the problems with the transmission.
Cars are built to run, small things are missed. Over time they get fixed and the cars run fine.
This board can be a beacon of information to make those simple fixes, and make this car a success.
The Acura is a fine car, but not as interesting. I want an interesting but reliable car. If I didn't have the RX8, I would own something as interesting. Compared to the other interesting cars that I could own (Ferrari, Lotus, Porsche, Maserati), the RX8 is almost boring. So I get to check the oil more regularly. I changed to synthetic trans fluid and added water wetter to the radiator.
There aren't any real fix or it will break fixes that I can think of for the RX8.
A real problem car (like my XR4TI) had plenty. Here is that list.
Transmission:
1) Trim dougnut under stick (otherwise it will pop out of 2nd and 4th)
2) Use synthetic trans fluid (front bearing burns in 10K miles)
3) Underfill (I have no idea)
Engine
1) Cut dipstick tube 2" (otherwise you will put 6 qts in a 4 qt motor)
2) Shield battery from heat (funny how the glowing red hot turbo ended up under the battery)
3) Shield the AC hose from heat (ditto for the turbo)
These fixes were very cheap to make, but before they were made there were thousands in repair for turbos that weren't burning oil and transmissions that that popped ut of gear. This was a real problem car, but it was also a lot of fun. The RX8 is much better in every way, and almost boring in its reliability and careful design.

there are problems with every single car out there, u really think TL wont give you any/as much problems? You must be DREAMING BUDDY
Im sure lots of people on this board, plus the people out there beat their 8 like **** and yet they have any problems? so whats the deal here
I just dont like whinning little girl like you , who blame this and that when you're just unlucky to have some parts fail on you. remember, u're just unlucky. stop whinning and hope your TL will get some *better luck*
but dont come back and whine like *oh I should've kept my 8 cuz my TL has more problems!* oh wait ... u wont be back ... nm ...
No community needs whinning little girl. keep that in mind

Wow, are we driving the same car?!? Sorry to hear you had problems. Frankly I'm a bit surprised a car as reliable as the 8 was trouble for you. Weird. (But hey, even my Dad's Leica had a bad shutter, so I guess anything's possible.)

First the throw-out bearing caused the flywheel and clutch to fail then the CD changer, then the Nav unit, then the gas and exhaust in the cabin then the 1st and 2nd gear notchiness. Took it in the last time and took the loaner car to the nearby Acura dealer where I know the owner. Drove the TSX, RDX, TL 6sp and auto. The RDX is cool but too expensive, the TSX was zippy but needs more power. Got the TL with navi. So far the car is about 80% the 8 handling and power wise. I am amazed by all of the technology bits on this car, and fot the same $ that I spent on the 8. The stereo makes the 8 sound like crap. That said I wish that the 8 was put together better, I will miss the car but not the visits to the service department. Its always bad news when the while service department know you by name and groan when you pull into the drive.
KUDOS to GALPIN in SCV....Kevin Barthel and Michael Holland ROCK.....they are the only reason that I kept it so long...

I can't vouch for the original poster but I've had a heap of troubles with mine to
1) two engines
2) cat
3) threee sets for brake pads
3) 3 airbag sensors
4) seat warmers
5) climate controls
6) many other small things
Unfortunately my dealer knows me by name and where I work. I love the car but I got a "Friday" car. The reliability has been ****. It can happen to any model by any manufacturer. Just because mine has been problematic it doesn't mean they all will be. My last engine blew a day before I was to take a 600 mile trip. I got lucky there. I do feel the car is a bit delicate for the money you pay. .
This was the reason why I leased the car. I won't buy a car if it's the first model year. So when my lease runs out, I'll probably say good-bye........unless there is a Super-charged MS RX8 available by then
