Finally! New RX-8 just purchased!

Hey guys...I have been reading this forum for a while in my research of this vehicle. Lots of searching and reading of good and bad experiences led me to believe I could probably maintain this car if I do not neglect it. I'm a Virginia Tech senior and I'm originally from Delaware so I got the car at a dealership there.

It's a 2005 Sunlight (?) Silver. It only had 16k miles on it. Period. No moonroof...but the thing is immaculate. I will post pictures soon when I get a hold of a decent camera. Cant mine.

The car I traded was a 03 Nissan Sentra Spec-V. Fun small car...horrible handling...doesnt stop well.

Anyway...I appreiciate all the good info and I'll be on here more often adding my input. btw...I feel like I'm the only Black dude with this car? At least in VA. HA!

yep

Thanks...forgot to note.

In Delaware taxes are almost more than half of other states. This was good.

And the car has chrome wheels from the last owner (not a fan of chrome but ehh) the best thing about them is the beast *** new BFGoodrich tires on them. (T/A KDW)Launches pretty damn good. Wont last long though....DAMN YOU WINTER.

Things

Things I noticed about my 8 even though its fairly new at 16k.

1.) Clutch pedal is a tad squeaky/weak feeling. Makes a faint little pop when I press down hard.

2.) Random 4th gear grind at high rpsms. Only in 4th gear on upshift or down. It isnt horrible...but i suspect that this will spawn into more problems. The dealer has been contacted and will look at the problem.

3.) Is it just me or is the transmission (manual) loud? What I mean by this...I'm at the drive thru line at Mcdonald's and when I shift...the sound is pretty loud from the engine bay in all gears...sounds like its transforming. Clutch is perfect and everything...hmm. I'll get used to it I guess.

yep

I cant wait to do that. My parents live in Dover Delaware and sometimes they open up the "Monster Mile" Nascar track for fun driving. Although it is one big oval...they setup a track course in the middle area.

Until then...I'm just trying to get a damn appearance kit.

Welcome and congrats.

There's a TSB for the clutch squeak
Search on the weak pedal bracket... there's lots of material.

Silver and chrome?

The reflected sounds are normal for this car. If you get the AFE short shifter you can enjoy even more transmission sounds!

Thanks for the info...at least I feel alot better about the whirring noise. I figured it was normal though...If it wasn't...I doubt our cars would last another 5000k. I am taking it for the clutch pedal bracket though. Pics coming soon...I have to steal someone's camera because mine is Horribad. Here is a test...

18 7.5 45mm offset. I'm looking for something fatter and blacker. 18 8.5 maybe? Cant wait to sell these ****'s...the BfGoodrich's are so tasty though.

Hey we might be able to work something out with your appearance package. Soon I keep telling myself I will be removing the appearance package (front lip and side aero). So, maybe the end of January we can talk again if your still interested.

Oh, I got a SS as well.

Phantom and Chrome!

Hey Hokie, to you and all of us other Newbies this week -- Congrats. Mine is 3 days old. It's Phantom, and Sand Beige leather, and those beautiful chrome wheels. They are phasing out Phantom in '08, so I got one of the last ones. Frankly, I think the chrome wheels are distinctive; they look great with your car, too!

(I'm a former Doverite. Is Russo's restaurant still open - just north of DAFB on 13? Great place for fried mushrooms.)

Anyway, congrats.

-- Lear

Yo...

I would choke a bitch or two for those seats in my silver. Nice car though. Thanks about the wheels...I'm just a much more low key type of person mostly due to the points on my license.

Cant wait until I take it back to the dealership after january...they are going to put a moonroof in the car...and they also do leather seat installs...maybe I should just get those sexa tan leather seats you have. Hmm?

Wow, you have points on your license, and bought an 8??? You're a brave man, my friend. Low key, huh? I hate to tell you; you're definitely high profile with that silver/chrome.

I ran across a used 8 on autotrader that had white-or-beige Recaro seats installed, aftermarket. (Of course, you lose the rotor in the headrest.) Maybe that's an option.

grats on the new ride. those wheels are rough, but you may not have too much trouble selling them off - chrome is popular & can be nice, just not on the 8.

congrats to L_Pilot, too. Those seats are hot.

It's kind of 'luck of the draw' with those things. Some people have them break early on and others go 100,000 + miles with ZERO problems. (Expo1) Fortunately it's covered by warranty and I assume Mazda will look into this if they keep having dealerships ordering this many clutch pedals.
