First 24 hours of ownership

Haven't put on a lot of miles myself yet, but I have gone over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb. Found that the dealer apparently did not know how to judge curbs when he was driving the 8 because one of the front rims is all tore up. Did not see it at the dealership last night but I brought it back and pointed everything out.

Showed them two rims that needed attention. They said no problem. There is some kinda gouge in the rocker panel on the driver's side, and a little scratch in the front clip.

On Tuesday the 8 goes into the dealership to have their First Class Finish stuff done to it. Basically it gives a protection warranty on the paint for the next 5 years and unlimited mileage. It apparently even covers against tree sap and other wonderful things that destroy a car's finish. The treatment also takes care of the interior leather and flooring. Not sure if it is a bunch of crap but conisdering my Vic had all the problems with pealing paint I was not going to take a chance with this car. The current plan is to drive the RX-8 right up until the wheels fall off. =)

So far this vehicle is a blast to just sit in and cruise with on I-40 while listening to The Punisher soundtrack. =)

Since I know these tires are not going to last very long I am going to ask about it now. So far it looks like the highest price for the tires are about $260 per without road hazard. I saw a set of yokohamas for $200 and they are the W rated tires. Anyone have an opinion on this one?

I was also reading some of the posts about the "cold air intakes." Anyone have any actual experience with these things?

Other than that I am still stupid-happy about getting the car.

Thanks for the post. Interestingly enough I had found that post right after I posted this. Good stuff. I am not overly excited about that sound though. Personally I love how the RX sounds right now.

I've had mine since October. Everytime I get close to, or drive my 8, I get this 'silly little grin', just ask my wife.:D

On the intake question, Omicron had an aftermarket intake on his 8, and having riden in it, I can tell you that it was a little louder - due to the resonator. I don't remember his reason for taking it off the car. He also has a Borla exhaust on there, and that does sound good. I'm pretty well convinced I'm going to get the same exhaust system, myself.
On the tire question, This thread may be helpful.
Happy 8-motoring!!!!
