First Car? An RX-8 Of Course!
Hey you guys, just signed up for the forums tonight! This is my first post so i thought i would say that my first car in my life is an 8. I am currently in highschool, only 17 years old. My father bought me the car because my grades are high enough. We bought a 2004 Silver with side under spoiler, splash guards, basically ever option you can have except its the touring package not grand and no spoiler in the back. It even has the NAV. I know people love their manuals, my friends tried to talk me into it, but i have the auto. The steptronic is still fun. We bought it and it only have 145 miles on it (all test driven miles) so its basically a new car. I just past the break in period and am at 630 miles. I can not believe how lucky i am to have this car...especially as my first car. When i park it way the hell away from everyone else at school i almost walk backwards to class because i love the way it looks so damn much. To me the styling of the car is second to none. It is not the fastest car in the world, but personally i think the coolest. My friend has a 99' BMW M3 and it beats my car by a nice margain, but i would take my 8 over his 3 any day.
Anyways i just thought i would introduce myself to everyone. I am just a highschool student so i dont have much money to spend, but i would like to know what you think are some good upgrades to do this awesome car. Incase you are wondering we got the car for 28k including taxes and all that stuff. I paid the downpayment of 1,700 am giving him 25 bucks a month and i also pay for gas. That is not to mention all the times my dad steals the car to drive wherever and it comes back with a full tank :D .
cya around the boards!

Listen here young man. Being stuck in class all day is a good thing. It is a great thing. I'm only 25, but I would give my right arm to go back to high school. I know it may seem like a pain in the ***, but trust me, besides retirement, it is the closest thing u will get to true freedom.
And watch out for the old timers on this board. Many of them dont like the idea of a young kid having a 30000$ car. My parents would have died laughing at the idea of buying me such a thing. Although they did give me a used rx7 in high school. You are very lucky.
And that 25$ a month. Here's what u should do. Whenever your dad is holding a lot of cash, just take the 25 out of his wallet. I'm positive he wont notice it is gone.

you guys are all right in what you are saying. i know that i am extremely lucky. i was not planning on getting any car until i brought home a 3.6 GPA. we were looking at some acura rsx's and i said to my dad that the 8 looks really sweet. next thing i know we are test driving and buying the babe. there are a lot of people who give me jealous looks at school, but i only care about my friends who pised their pants when they saw it.
joe.....isnt that technically stealing?
DANomite, could you please explain to a little noobie like myself what mud slingers and a lift kit are? keep in mind i only have a few hundred to spend.

congrats on the car. who doesnt love to go fast...at the right time and place of coruse, its nice that the human body hasnt caught up to technology (no inherent (sp?) fear of speed).
as far as upgrades. i always start any car off with a good suspension set-up. that way, you can use the power you have stock to get going, and then never need to slow down cause your on rails :-) after that, some power add'ers and finish it off with some cosmetic changes, but nothing major. IMO.
happy motoring

Welcome!! I don't think you will have any problems on the board. Apparently you are a giant mental step ahead of some of the people your age that frequent this site. One, you know you are a lucky guy and don't have the attitude that having this/any car is a right. Two, you have a 3.6 GPA which is very hard and I commend you on the fact. And three you utilize complete, coherent sentences and real words not pwnd, gaz, peeps, etc,etc,etc...
The general age of this board is a bit older than other boards so be prepared to have a few disagreements/discussions on some subjects. Just don't listen to people's compaints about you having a car like this at 17 should someone start another hate war. Just ignore them.
As far as the car is concerned. As mentioned above, if you haven't done so, take an hour or so and THOROUGHLY read the owner's manual. This car is like no other in many aspects. Read enough of this forum and you'll discover all it's little quirks ie: oil consumption, gas mileage, flooding, gas grade, etc... A quick search of the archived threads will more than likely answer ANY question you have. For some reason if you have one that has yet to be discussed to death by all means ask away and I'm positive you'll have your answer in no time flat. Avoid dealer and/or techs for info, come here first.
With that said, above all, have fun and stay out of trouble and don't let all the "8" time ruin your killer grades!!!! Congrats again and you now own one hell of a car:D Texas 8

Welcome to the forum nzarnow.
You remind me of such a similar situation... I'm 17... My parents got me the 8 because of my good grades... I have an 04 sunlight silver automatic...
Dang what a coincidence man!
Enjoy your ride. :D

Congrats on your car, keep up the good grades and treat your RX8 with love! We all like going fast at times or else we would not get sports cars but like they already have told you be careful and keep it on a track.
The last thing you want to live with is the death of someone else because of your selfish desire to play with a car regardless of what could happen to someone else. Also, the last thing your parents need is the death of their child comming from a gift they gave you.
I'm glad you realize how LUCKY you are so make sure that you keep the fun at a track or empty road where there are no bystanders but only an empty road. Alot of kids your age know little about cars let alone how to handle them so learn little by little...push her a little bit more each time, but again...I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH...keep it at a track for the safety of others and yourself.
GOD BLESS

Awesome. Welcome to the forum! And I will have to say, you really DO stand out from the crowd. You honestly realize how incredibly fortunate you are to have the best car... er... I mean, ONE of the best cars around. :D Much less for you first car. Congrats, is all I have to say. By the way, what color is your car?
Whether or not we admit it, I think we all have a bit of a lead foot at times. Why else would we need 240 hp? I think what they meant was just to not post any "I was drag racing this Mustang in front of the school..." stories. Nothing that's too blatantly risky.

Congrats on getting the nice car...wish I got a car for having a 3.6....bitterness aside, be careful with it. Don't street race, street racing ends up killing people, and you won't win with this car, so don't try. Keep it safe, the car has limits, know what they are.

A couple of questions: 6 speed or auto? Also what does your pops pimp in that he can buy you this car but still wants to borrow the 8? I'm guessing an suv. Happy rotoring and drive safely.
