Probably a far better lesson than you're trying to teach by suggesting he steal money out of his dad's wallet. Real mature. You're 25? You come across as being more like 15.

Disgusted,

I won't flame you, but if you put your dad on here, I'll flame him all day long. Can't say I agree with his logic. Maybe if you had gotten a 3.6 average while attending Harvard, but bringing home one 3.6 in high school won't earn my kid a car.

Enjoy it. Don't be stupid with it.

Hey NZ congrats on the new car! As others have stated there will be those from previous generations who may throw some nasty words at you because of your situation. You're in high school paying $25 a month on it when they have had to work hard over the years to get where they are in whatever field they work in to afford a car like this. My feelings on it? ITS AN RX-8 AND YOURE PAYING PRACTICALLY NOTHING!!! Who WOULDN'T accept an offer like that?:-) Just keep that in mind, but be respectful. Respect on here is KEY.

Also as tempting as it is, other kids will pull up to you at lights in thier fart cannons and try and race you, DON'T DO IT! On the drive home from the dealership I received two propositions, and I had the car for less than an hour! Again, I personally wouldn't race this car in any case, but if you must, go to the track. If its THAT important to you, read up on other comparable cars to the 8 and learn the numbers so you know ahead of time whose faster, cancelling any curiosity of racing them:-)

Take care of it and it will treat you well, and the ladies love it

Congrats, the RX-8 is my first car aswell and I am 18 but I am making the payments for half of the car and insurance and all of the gas. As everyone has said, Drive safely! If you really need to step on it only do so when you are sure you have no possible way of putting other people in danger. Have fun!

Thank you to everyone who responded!
You guys have already made me feel at home on this forum. As far as all of you old people are concerned about myself being spoiled have a point. However, it is not like i am insanely rich. My father drives a 2000 chevy Sub. My mom drives a GMC Envoy.

Yes i live in the heart of orange county california, but that doesn't mean i am like the kids on the show. As far as that goes, it is a rich community, but not like the show.

Talking

"My friend has a 99' BMW M3 and it beats my car by a nice margain, but i would take my 8 over his 3 any day."

I'd take the 3....

sike.

Congrats. I'm 18 and this is my first car too. Bought it straight up cash, and now it's mine.

Don't do stupid things kids our age tend to do(ie-street race). It's pointless. Be prepared to get alot of stares. I always do

No offense to you, because i know what you are trying to say, but you are coming across kinda dumb because you are uninformed. My father has worked hard all his life. He is an executive manager at Raytheon in El Segundo. He drives 75 miles round trip everyday to work in a chevy sub. When he retires hes buying a 07 vette. I personally do not see anything wrong in buying your kid a nice car if you have the opportunity. Numbers are not the only things that matter in life, but the effort. I think my parents know that i work my *** off in school for the grades i get. I will not be able to go to Harvard, but who cares? Almost all four year schools will excel me into the criminal justice career that i want to pursue.

Either you are not able to buy your kid a car or you choose not to does not mean they do not deserve it. When i bust my butt for grades that are good for ME it should be rewarded as aposed to kids at my highschool driving BMW's and Mercedes when they smoke pot and get drunk on the weekends.

You have a point. When I was younger I went to a school of mostly upper class kids. It seemed like all the kids who were skipping school and out doing drugs and getting into trouble were those who were driving the Beamers and Mercedes. I think it has a lot to do with parents who aren't there for thier kids and try to make up for it with material things. In any case, when I did well in school I got a pat on the back. You lucky bastard...

Hey, I thought everyone here was over 25! Im 19 and this is MY first car, got it when i was 18. I make half the payments too. Luckily I dont pay for insurance though. I have to buy the tires and gas though. Just ignore everyone thats bagging on you dude. If they were you and their parents could afford it I can assure you they would have been driving a nice car as well. And another thing, I have 16 units and I work 32 hrs a week to be able to afford this car. (Tires and Gas, gas, and more gas, Why does it have to use premium!!!!!) But just enjoy the car. Learn to grip then graduate to drifting. I should get a picture of what my brother did to his car. But then you all scared me with that mazda warranty stuff.

Hey, and when you all say "stupid things" dont alot of you have radar detectors? I dont have one because I dont need it. I never speed over 10 miles an hour on the freeway. I bet you everyone here breaks the law in their cars. When there is an arrow with a 10mph sign dont tell me you dont take it at 50!! (Well you do if you can drift, or you're a pro.) Come on, we all tend to be a little sinful. It's not us its the car!! I have my girlfriend, and the wild ***** I see on the side(8).

I don't have a radar detector.
I usually take those at 30, I never go the limit.

there is obviously no requirement to owning an rx-8 (besides money), but it is as if only normal, good, down to earth people own them. all of the people i have talked to on this sight are extremely nice and positive people. i look forward to talking to you all and making some friends.

Nzarnow, it's good that you are humble about owning the 8. Be sure to buy your pops a nice b-day present in the future when you can afford it, to re-pay the favor. How about buy him a 2010 Viper to go along with his 07 Vette. Wish I got a nice car in HS but whatever.

25 bones a month! That's a steal. Again thank your pops. Only comment is that you should have gone with manual. Enjoy the car!

Parenting over the net is always my favorite. And you'll start to notice most people who do that, don't live in the same type of areas as we do. Just different environments, learn to ignore.

While I agree in principal with Stew on this topic, it's at least encouraging that this guy's father made him get the low power automatic. It's probably still more car than this kid can handle for his first ride, but that remains to be seen.

More car than he can handle? Just what is so difficult in handling the auto?

Nothing at all... I'm referring to a ~200hp rear wheel drive sports car. All kids do stupid stuff with their first cars... and that's plenty of power to get into trouble.

Me either... I've got the madness! I have to wait until Friday to blow off work and down a keg while the Gators play.

It's nice to see a thread where a youngster has the privelage of owning a nice car like this, and doesn't get flamed. It proves that if you come off the right way, and admit you are a very fortunate young lad, you will gain some respect. I do agree with STEW in the sense that many of us cannot comprehend a father buying their son an expensive car like this for the sake of good grades.I graduated HS with a 3.79gpa, but it yielded me a pat on the back, and a used VW golf Diesel my senior year. Parents simply have their own ways of raising their children, and many chosse to spoil them. I personally would not buy my child a car of this caliber no matter what my income was, but it's best to just respect others, because it's their child, and their money. You have a great attitude, and it's refreshing to see someone who can appreciate what they have, and not act like they have a right to it. As long as you be careful and responsible, and learnto make money your own one day without future handouts in your adult life, you will be just fine, and look back on this experience as saying WOW I WAS ONE LUCKY M"FER. ENjoy your ride, and best of luck with your RX8.

Welcome to the forums, nzarnow... you're off to a good start. Enjoy your wonderful new car too - I woulda "killed or died" for a car like this when I was in HS. :D

As for modifying it, save your money and get a turbo or supercharger in a couple of years. In the mean time, a nice aftermarket exhaust (Borla, Greddy, RacingBeat, etc) is money well spent IMHO - but not for a performance gain per se. More for the sound upgrade - totally worth it. If you watch the ForSale forum here, you can sometimes pick them up with low miles for about half the retail prices of $500-$600.

Have fun, and be safe. Oh, and read LOTS here... there's TONS of great info to be had!

Hey, Congrats, I am 18 and am not as blessed as you are (however, I was a bit miffed by the lack of manual tranny, I hate autos).

Also, you mentioned racing your friends M3, careful, I would say the normal thing about "street racing" and how its wrong but i can't really speak about that now that I ride a sport bike (I am a cheap speed freak). I only ride fast in groups however, I ride like anyone would alone unless I know the road I am on. Also, #2, you know about the break in period correct? Don't race that sucker until its done breaking in and follow it to the letter. Motorcyclists do it, you can to.

Hope I don't sound cross, I am happy that someone with your maturity and respect for your car has come here. We have seen some upstarts who can't quite string a sentence to save thier lives come here asking for advice and wondering why each statement they give just looses them more respect in the eyes of the older guys.
