First Launch
#26
Yeah sorry for the threadjack, guys. I'm a pretty big computer geek, so that's weird about IMHO.
As far as launching...I read somewhere that 5500 RPM was optimal. Could be wrong though.

There is an optimal launch for competition and a just for the heck of it burnout which is actually what I did just to see what would happen. If you are launching for competition do you hold it at the launch RPM until the tires catch up or do you floor it right after launch?

If for competition, you need to hold RPM at a certain point which varies for different setups. You need to go out and figure out which RPM works best and you can tell which RPM is the best when you get just a little bit of chirp and get pushed foward as fast as you can. When you release the clutch, the point is for it to grab as fast as possible to transfer all your power, so you'll be releasing the clutch very quickly (takes time to learn). Once you have almost engaged the clutch, you should be at WOT. What's the point of launching your car w/o putting the pedal to the floor, eh? I have yet to determine the best RPM (for my setup) but for my rx7s, generally around 3500 to 4000ish is my best launch point.
