Angry First Scratch in Two Years

I was debating on whether or not to post this, but I can not stop thinking about it. I went to play volleyball last night at some outdoor courts right around the corner from my house. When I pulled up the guy next to me was commenting on the grass that was all over my car. He found this odd because I alway keep my car very clean. For whatever reason, I decided not to clean my car last weekend and you will see the relevance later in this rant. Anyway, he said to me "It looks like there is a white spot on the front of your car". I said it was probably just grass and he said that he didn't think so. So in a panic I get out and check out the front panel. Sure enough there is a nice two inch scratch on the front of the car. Prior to this, my car was prestine. I have owned the car for almost two years with no problems and now this.

It has to be from the landscapers that mow the lawn around my work. I usually park in a different lot on Monday's because I wash my car on the weekend and then they blow grass all over the car on Monday. Since I didn't clean my car over the weekend, I parked in the normal lot and this is what happens. I guess I learned my lesson and I will always park in the other lot on Monday's.

I am going to try to fix it this weekend. I figure I can use a needle and some touch up paint and fill the scratch in. If any paint goes outside of the scratch I will use Goo Gone to wipe off the excess. I have never tried this before, but I am pretty sure it will work. I have enough Liquid Glass on the car that the Goo Gone shouldn't hurt the finish.

I probably will not post pictures since the scratch is disgusting me. I can't wait until Saturday, when I will be able to spend the time to fix this.

You can use Langka kit to smooth down the touch up paint to be flush with the rest of the paint. It's pretty easy to use. Don't buy the $5 instructions CD though, it's not all that great. Just a short movie.

Sorry to hear. Try some of the scratch-b-gone stuff off the shelf. If it isn't too deep it may cover it.

BTW, love your Weimeraner! Best dogs ever!!!

Astral, I never heard of that stuff before. Maybe I will give it a try. Have you tried it before and had good results.

Chrisbert, she is a pain in the butt sometimes, but I wouldn't know what to do without her.

I used to live by this old man that got on his riding mower about twice a week and mowed the hell out of everything. He'd drive right across is gravel driveway with the blade down and the mower engine redlined. My driveway was right against the edge of his property. Everytime I heard that mower fire up, I'd run outside and start moving cars (had 2 at the time) to the other side of the house. That side had a bunch of kids who were always playing with sticks and rocks and bats and *****.... so I tried to move them back as soon as the mowing frenzy was over.

I came home from work one evening to find a huge dent with no paint left on it between my front and back windows where the old fart had thrown a rock against my car ( grand am at that point, but a brand new car). At that point, I politely knocked on his door, asked him to come look at my car, and begged him to please aim the rocks in the opposite direction when he decided to mow those. He muttered something about not being responsible and went home. I moved!!

People on autopia.org have had good results. I am trying it now, but looks like my touch up paint doesn't match up, so I can't really speak for it now.

The Langa Blob Eliminator works very very well. I bought my used '04 TG 8 about 7 weeks ago. The car was in pristine condition except for this blob of touch-up paint on the front fender from where the previous owner tried to fix what appeared to be a large stone chip. After talking to a couple people and getting a quote to have the fender fixed/shot ($240), I thought that I would try the Langa product. In about 30 seconds, all of the touch-up blunder was gone revealing a tiny tiny stone chip. I then followed the instructions on their site to apply new touch-up paint (and follow up with the Blob Eliminator). Now you can hardly tell that it was ever there!

I'm definitely sold on the product!

astra, thanks for the reminder.

I had Langka on my mental need-to-buy list for a while. Ordered the kit tonight. Have about 6 chips on the front end that I have delayed touching-up because I didn't want blobs or creating a time-consuming sanding project.
