So I bought my 8 with 27,000 miles and am now at 31,000 so it was time for the 30,000 mile services to be performed. I will be doing most of this myself this weekend, but I also needed the two recalls to be performed.
I'll try to shorten this story as much as I can. Took it in with the following complaints:
Gas Tank Recall: Done...as far as I know.
Ball-Joint Recall: Inspected
Excessive Hub Rust: Hubs were ground and coated with Anti-Seeze. It's a silver-ish color, but I can see the rust through it. Still looks like ****. Cost to me $90!
Squeaking Brakes: Front pads replaced. No Charge
Temp Control **** Broken: **** replaced. No Charge
Door Sill Plates Falling Off: Plates reattached. No Charge
Rattle from Radio Face Plate: Rattles not covered by warranty. They said minimum of 1/2 labor to pin-point rattle. I said skip it...I'll do that myself.
Brake Fluid Change (as per 30,000 mile maintenance): Done. Cost to me $70
Condensation in Head/Tail Lamps: Condensation not present at time of inspection. I'll have to bring it back when there IS condensation.
So that's where I'm at. Service was good except that I paid $90 for my rotor hubs to still look like ****, and they seem to have forgot the newest computer reflash. I'll be heading back Saturday to attempt to straighten this out. Sorry for the length, but I needed to vent. It's my first service experience with this car and I felt let down.

I'm not a great lover of Mazda service, but if I got the service you had, I'd be happy. They did everything that they said they should and didn't even give you any grief about the brake pads not being a recall item. My dealer wouldn't do that. My dealer gives me grief about every single thing that I ask them to do. Just as a point, if they did the heat recall, that includes the reflash, but they may not have done it. If they haven't, then I can understand why you would be upset.

Yeah...according to the paperwork the heat shield recall was performed, but no mention of the reflash. I mainly just pissed about the rotor hubs. For $90 I expected better results.

Can't blame you about paying $90 and getting rust showing through. That sort of thing you are better trying it yourself or taking it to a body shop. Personally, I'm just letting them rust. They're taking on a lovely patina (or at least that's what I'm telling myself
). I hope that they take your concerns seriously because they should. All the best - Haze

In retrospect I should have just told them to leave the hubs alone if it wasn't warrantable. I was at work and didn't want to think too much about it. $90 didn't seem too bad for nice shinny silver hubs. That would look nice...but that's not what i got.
