First ticket in the 8 today

Well I got caught doing 79 in a 70. I didn't even realize I was going that fast, as I was talking to my passanger and next thing a cop pulls out and grabs me. First ticket in as long as I can remeber. It was for $65. Sucks. Just a vent. My fault though should have paid attention. Damn this car doesn't feel like it is even going that fast.

I'm surprised they pulled you over for only going 9 over. This is usually what I try to stay at. My cruise is always set on 78 or 79 when I'm on a 70 mph interstate.

I may have to rethink my strategy now....

Was it a local police or state trooper?

Man $65 for a speeding ticket in NM is a lot better than the $140 they charge in California.

Damn another cop with nothing better to do.

You could fight it claiming diferences in calibration standards. Most law enforcement will not pull you over for less that 10 over the limit because it is usually not worth the time as it is easy to fight.

That's it? I swear when my husband got a ticket it was $200+

Anyhow, it's ridiculous for them to pull you over for 9 miles. I usually give myself that much buffer anyways.

This may be some help. It looks like a great site. I'm going to spend some time looking around.

I got my last ticket (01/2004) for 9mph over the limit also.. I was clocked 74 in a 65 zone. The cop had *seen* me doing 100 though.

Fine: $140 for that in California.

A friend of mine did 47 in a 30 zone. That was an industrial zone, huge street, no traffic, no pedestrians.. he drives a stock Civic and is a very careful driveer. His fine as $210.

Add $30 for processing fee and $25 for traffic school if you qualify. I didn't

We're lucky, legokcen. In GA a cop can't give you a ticket for under 10 mph over unless he's GSP, and most won't bother for less than 15. I drive all over the state and keep it at 14 over with no encounters (knocks on wood).

SikRedRX-8 your 8 looks so nice in your signature, really!

No tickets for me, at least for now, but as I type I can see them coming, because I just removed the front plate

p.s. How can I add a pic in my signature?

I feel like I am always on the tail of your posts, RX-GR8. Anyway, that sucks, 9 miles is usually what they let people get by with here in IL, but, 1 mile more and it's BUSTED!. No tickets yet, if and when I do get one, I can guarantee it will be fore more than 9 miles over, and then some. :D

I just got my first speeding ticket in my rx8 recently as well. $200.00 for going 70 in a 55 mph zone, here in northern California. I'm not complaining about the speed - getting a ticket for going 15 mph over the speed limit isn't something I can legitimately argue. However, getting the ticket for going 75 while everyone around me was going equally fast or faster, is just plain unfair. Personally, I think my car just happened to be flashier than that of the general traffic, so he targeted me. For a poor college-student, $200.00 is a near death sentence. I'll have to eat top ramen for the next month or so.

I dunno man, top ramen is kinda expensive since its a name brand. You should go for the generic instant noodles that just give you a salt packet instead of actual seasoning...

I have a good friend of mine in the local police force and he's said the same thing. State troopers can pull you over for being 1 mph over though.

I have a trip to Charlotte, NC coming up this weekend. I hope no troopers on 75 or 85 find out their wife has been cheating on them recently. :D

Yeah it was a State Trooper, and as he was leaving he said "This is a nice car, I would be speeding too."

I have a really nice one, but he was behind a big sign, and he tagged me as I went right pass him, and I was the only one on the road so there was no pre warning. He used Laser.

I wouldnt mind the cost of the ticket-its the demerit points. Too many points - your licence is suspended. Here in Canada ya might get 12 km (7 mph) over before they bother you your gonna get a ticket FOR SURE at 16 k(10 mph) over.
I can understand on a twisty narrow road with hidden driveways, but on a FREEWAY with light traffic??

LOL

Velocity Red = Cop Magnet
You should take it to court. Most likely the cop won't show and it will get dismissed.

Unfortunately it's not like that over here. You have to pay anyway, and with some bad luck (a judge in a bad mood) you'lll have to pay more.

I have a question. My brother, my friend and I were driving to Lake Mead, we just got off the highway and were heading into overton when we got pulled over. We were coming up a hill and the cop was going down the hill. The cops lights were on before we could even see all of his windshield, not to mention he was going the opposite way, he was not behind us. Is that even legal, he had no time at all to radar is because he could see us. It's just that we were in a bright orange mazdaspeed protege.

Cops ALWAYS show in Canada- they are being paid to show. Not only that, its like a script between the Prosecution and the Cop when he's on the stand. Very intimidating, but we must soldier on!!!
