Fishy...

Ok, so i was looking for an FD on Cars.com and I came across this one...

http://cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp...2&aff=national

Im like, No way. thats WAY too little of a price fo that car.......... AND its clean title!??!
humm... let me e mail them.

So i did, I said.........

Id like to know some more info on your FD. Please send me some more pics if avalable but mainly Id like to know more about it. I drive a turbo Rx8 right now and am not really looking for a car to get, but I might be interested in this or i can reffer this to some friends.

thanks

-Richard

then she said,...

Hello there,

My name is Ana Smith , I email you regarding the 1993 Mazda : RX 7 that I have it for sale.
This car is in great condition inside and out (new paint). It runs and drives beautifully. The engine was replaced 13,000 miles ago and was done by rotary experts in Jacksonville, FL. I have receipts. The interior is very clean and there are racing harnesses attached to the seats. A 4-piece Extreme Dimensions body kit was very recently added and painted a high gloss red. The calipers were painted red to match. A carbon fiber wing and halo headlights add to the aggressive look of the car. The audio system is highly custom. A 1600 watt Kenwood amp power two 12” Alpine Type-R subs via a Panasonic head unit. Pioneer speakers give it a clear, loud sound. The appearance of the system is awesome with the custom false floor and sub box. There is a plexi-glass “RX-7” logo making the amp visible underneath. Red neon allows the logo to glow at night. The radio antenna was removed because the motor did not work. The vehicle is remote start equipped but I lost the electronic key.(easily replaceable) The engine sounds awesome thanks to a Flowmaster 60 series performance exhaust. If requested, I will include the stock front and rear bumpers and a set of 2” lowering springs

I want to let you know that I have few buyers who are very interested in buying the car, so in case you want to buy it asap, please emai me back ASAP.

Thanks
Ana Smith

so then finally I replied.....

I noticed your phone number is (310), I work in that area. let me know if your avalable to meet.and if possible, do you think i can have the Vin number?

thanks.

Im trying to see what she has to say, maybe she's going to say, oh, im not avalable to meet, or I cant release the vin number publicly, or something.

Bleh, $3,900 for all of what shes saying it has?!
that would be awsome.

anyway, if this is a real deal, i'll let you guys know so you can get it or let other people know.

I wrote some additional info about the deal because I received a lot of offers for this car and I want to select my buyer.

The car is located in San Martin, California but don't worry I will pay shipping to your house. I have to tell you that I recently moved to Birmingham, United Kingdom due to work and family. I lost my job and now the bank knocks at my door to pay the rate for the house I bought so I really need to sell the car fast to solve this issue.

The price is $3,900. As this is a large purchase I suggest using a third party to complete this purchase. For safety reasons I think that the most important thing, when we make a deal over the Internet, is both of us to have 100% protection in case of fraud or anything else.

I had the car listed on a couple of websites and I want to finalize the deal through a third party escrow agent that will provide 100% protection for buyer and seller.
We will use Ebay's Secure Payment Center to handle the funds. They will also offer you a 5 days inspection period with money back guarantee. I have a $20,000 insurance policy with them so We will be both refunded in case of something happens. As soon as the payment will be made I will take a plane to US and take care of the rest of the things ( shipping of the car along with the title ).

This is how the deal works:

1.The Seller will open the transaction --> 2.The buyer has to make the payment to Ebay's Payment Center and they will deposit the money into their secure escrow account --> 3. The seller will ship the item to the buyer and he has 5 days to inspect it -->4.The buyer will contact Ebay and will notify them if he is satisfied or not --> 5.Ebay will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied) or will refund the buyer(in case he is not satisfied).

If you agree with my terms please send me your full name and address so I can open a case with Ebay. Remember that time is an issue for me and I received many emails regarding the car, so please contact me ONLY if you are interested

I will wait your reply.

PS : Don't forget to send me your full name and address.

Sounds a little like one of those buying scams where they pick up your items and pay with a money order or something that turns out to be bogus.

That's exactly what this is. If you do a seach on ebay, there's no such thing as the "ebay payment center." The only ebay-approved escrow service is https://www.escrow.com/index.asp. Send them an email back referencing that and see what response you get. I bet they'll insist on the "ebay payment center" thing.

here's some other stuff that I found...

http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/mrkt_safety.html (see the "Scam Alert" box for an actual reference to the "ebay payment center")

It's a scam.

I've seen a few cars that have been offered for 20% of their going price.

All of them have a story of moving out of country and needing to sell ASAP so they'll "ship it to you" once you send them the money. Some even say "send me a deposit and I'll ship it then you send the rest" to sound legit.

Or "use an escrow service".

I saw a Supra for 8K. Excellent condition, 20,000 miles on it. I asked they said they were in England, the car will be shipped once I put money in an escrow. I reported them as a fraud. Another friend saw another one and these people were in Greece and wanted a deposit.

Scams.

Total scam. Auto version of the 419. Sadly, some jackass will fall for it.

I started corresponding with a seller about an Audi TT that had a legit VIN, etc. on Ebay. Seller in England, car in the states. I did some research and found the hometown of the ebayer and did some more research and found his number. All of this after I received an Ebay address through my email to complete the transaction, which was very legit looking webpage but some of the links were not the right links. He used the same third party spiel.

I called the Ebayer and left a message. He called back the next day and told me that his Ebay had been hijacked and he could not get back into it to notify Ebay of the problem since is password had been changed.

As the old saw goes, "If it is too good to be true".

On another note, while I was waiting for an Ebay transaction that I was bidding on to end in a few minutes, I got an email saying that my ebay rights had been suspended until I cleared something up (I forget what) and gave me a link to go to. Stupidly, in the heat of the moment, I clicked the link, signed on and had to update something about my visa. Whoops! As soon as I clicked, I realized what I had done and called and cancelled my card and changed my Ebay password immediately. Since I acted quickly, I have had no problems. Now, I have worked in computers since 72, can write programs, design web pages, etc., and know better but if they got me, I can only imagine how many people get taken.

That's classic that they are using a girl's name to make you think what we all would think: "dumb bitch don't know what she's got" Greed is a powerful thing. The lure of easy money. Some bone head will probably send them his life savings from mowing yards for the last 15 years. SCAM 4 sure.

It's not even a good scam. The least they could do is get their names consistent. "Please email me for more details and pictures at: chrissun11@yahoo.com." Ana Smith doesn't sound like Chris Sun. I'm very disappointed in them.
