If anyone has doubts what I'm talking about (providing too much for your children), I invite you to read "The Millionaire Next Door". The author has an entire chapter (or maybe two) on the dangers of "economic outpatient care" which is essentially keeping your kids on the tit financially for their entire lives and teaching them nothing.

And it's about responsible spending. How many of you out there can say that you can afford a car that it 3x as expensive as the one you're driving. Or more importantly, can say that you're saving at least 20% of your income. That's what this guy is promoting.

I can say yes to #1 and "almost" to #2 ... but I have three kids in braces and two bar mitzvahs to pay for in the next three years. So I guess I get a break ...

It's your age group, the immaturity, lack of driving experience, thinking that your immortal, being willing to take a dare, accident stats and death stats. If you have to ask, you don't know or realize this. 'Nuff said.

can i tell you that you are all bitches? the ones complaining about how my car is too much... first off i have the AT which is not 238 HP so stop bitching about speed. Secondly, i live in the same town as michael jordon, so instead of getting a low performance luxary car such as a C-series mercedes, i got this. Thirdly, my interest and my dads interest in cars are next to breathing on our list of daily priorities and some people value things more. For example, some rich people dont even buy big houses because they dont VALUE that. Now if my dad knows that i love sports cars and would want me to have what he cuoldnt, so he works his *** off to get me the car, then all the power to him. Im sorry that some of you may be less fortunate and/or jealous but i refuse to look upon myself as a spoiled bitch just because you cant have what i have. If you really think you would deny a gift like this then your ******* retarted...and as for the work-ethic bullshit - during the summer i work 5 days a week for 8 1/2 hours and 4 hours on saturdays which is actually more than some of the bitches complaining about my work-ethic so stfu because i actually work more hours than you when im not in school...

Give it up guys, he will never get the points we are making. Especially the ones about the age, insurance, danger. lol, we would probably feel the same when we were that age. If he survives the next 6-8 years he will start to get it. Can't blame him for being a kid.

Really? You live in the same town as Michael Jordan? What town is that? I live right near by. I'd bet you DO NOT live there ... prove it by naming the town and the location of his home.

By the way - until you work 85 hours a week, you aren't working more hours than me.

who cares if you live in the same town as him?? That doesn't prove anything!! My mom helped design john trovolta's house in ocala, but that doesn't mean that she just handed me my car...

I won't even let my mom pay for my tires when she offered...its my car, my responsibility..

I'll admit, at 16, if my mom gave me a car, i would have taken it, but now, not a chance in hell. I'd slowly pay her back for it...it's not her responsibilty to give me a car...if i want one, i can do it on my own..

and i HIGHLY doubt people are jealous of what you have...BECAUSE MOST OF US ON HERE HAVE ONE TOO...but if you're "so into sports cars" why do you drive an AT?

It is now time for the 17 year old girl who just got a new MT RX-8 just handed to her.

First of all futurebadger07, if you can't even understand that being able to write English properly is essential in all college majors, then you probably don't possess the ability to fully understand what you've gotten yourself into. When I came on this board and posted about how I was getting an RX-8, no one flamed me. Do you know why? Because I was polite and I actually said that I appreciated what my parents were doing for me (in addition to being coherent). If you speak to these people as an adult, you will be treated as such, so don't get angry when they assume that you have no knowledge of cars or why this car would be hard to handle.

Now, before you drive this thing (and I know I'm most likely already too late) please take some lessons or at least research this car, and when I say research, actually read something on how the car works and why rear wheel drive would be different than front wheel drive or all wheel drive. The better you understand your car and appreciate it, the less likely you are to do something stupid that could ruin it. And these people, in general, do know what they are talking about. So if you can, performance driving school would be a good idea. As a matter of fact, I'm looking right now to see if there are any near me. Sorry if I sounded preachy, but I just wanted for you to understand that it's not necessarily just because of your age that you're being flamed on. I'm going to have to stop before I raise my blood pressure too much. "Peace out," in the words of Sixteenese.

Brass:

You're a great kid. I hope my son (currently 12 years old) turns out as bright, smart and articulate as you. While I don't agree with your parents' decision to give you the car, it's nice to see how much you understand and apprecaite just:

1) How nice of a gift it is ...

2) How potentially dangerous it also is ...

Hahaha, nice use of sixteenese! :p

Oh, and Badger, being young on this board, it's also a good idea to avoid pointing out how old you are in every post...It gets taken as a sign of immaturity and is also seen as an attempt to rub other people's faces in the fact that you had the car handed to you...Not going after you since I'm young as well, just take what I've said as some survival tips.

Badger ... you make it sound like your Dad is a slave to you with the "he worked his *** off to get me this car". Are you a prince?

Like I said before, make sure you PAY YOUR PARENTS BACK (in the future), as a sign of gratitude. Be it a nice vacation, new house, new car, hair transplant, etc. Do this not only to prove to us (cuz we're a bunch of internet people who's opinion don't matter), but to your parents (and yourself) that you are not spoiled.

Your parents must be so proud of you. You are wiser beyond your years.

Badger - Read this, learn this, live this. If you understand even half of what Brass has to say, you will be much better off in the long run.

those aren't stripes, they're tire tracks

True racing stripes do belong on muscle cars, not neons and even the RX8. they may look cool, but on that car they aren't painted on. What happened with your car was some salesman at the dealership tried to take on a muscle car, cheated by jumping the gun at the light and got a small head start. the othe car was behind and pissed off. In stead of passing the 8, he ran over the top while still smoking his tires in 4th gear, and left a nice souvenir for the driver of the 8. After the race the salesman thought "hey, those black marks look cool. we'll leave them on and tell everyone we put racing stripes on the car"

And now you know the rest of the story

Indeed. Speaking of stripes, the dealership that I got my car from put a teeny tape stripe (like 1/8 of an inch) across my car on the side from front to back (like you usually see on a truck or something). I'm don't think that I hate it... it's just not something I would have put on there myself. Fortunately for me, it's barely noticeable. I'll try to get some pics posted whenever the weather is actually decent and I can take my 8 out of the garage.

Is it like the little pin strpies? If so, you can most def. take them off. With a little bit of goo gone and some finger nails to get it started, you're good to go.
