Ok, so the other morning I started my 8 to move it and then shut it off (not thinking as I was thinking about getting my 13bt loaded in my truck), so after loading the engine I moved my 8 again and just shut it off (my bad). Later that night I got called in to work and she wouldn't start, grrrr so I got in my truck and headed off to work all pised off at myself. I got back from work and tried one more time with no luck, so in the morning I called my dealer and he told me to call mazda road side service and I did.

They sent a tow truck for my 8 and I wait like almost 2 hours for him to show up, but it was kind of cool because when he got here he was telling me about when he worked for mazda. He was saying how much the other rxs were and I told him about my rx2, so off he goes with my car, cry cry.

Well I called the dealer at about 12 or so and he told me I'm low in line so it will be a while. I called back about 4 and they told me that the guy had my car on the lift, but had gone home for the day, grrrr wtf, oh well we all have lives other than our job. I called back about 12 the next day and he told me there is a service bulletin and they had ordered a bigger starter, a bigger battery, and new plugs and they will be in friday. Wtf if there was a bulletin shouldn't they have the parts on the shelf? Oh well **** it, I have my truck, but it would be nice to have my car sine there havee been a few nice days.

So I was off friday and called about 11 and he told me that they shipped the parts to the wrong place, so now I'm pissed off. I ask about a loner car to beat the **** out of while mine is down and they told me that they don't have one grrrrr. So I am hoping if everything goes right I will have it back tomorrow, but who knows.


So, my question is, should I write a nasty letter to mazda corporate?

Should I go talk to the manager of the dealership?

Before you call or write Mazda wait until they fix it, you'll be real happy when you get your car back and you won't even give a **** about how long it took. Trust me, my RX-8 was at the dealership for 3 weeks without another car < beat that! Haha, naw I hope you don't have to beat that.. good luck man.

It's actually pretty cool once you get it back - the new starter motor is insane, I love it. I had to wait for parts as well, which baffles me since flooding is such a major concern with these cars. You'd think they'd keep a couple of the motors in stock, it's not like they're going to go bad after a few weeks of sitting around.

Sorry to hear that they've been jerking you around though. I was dying over the 3 days it took to get my car back, I can't imagine expecting it back on each one of those days and not getting it. Anyway, hang in there, you'll have it back soon and it'll be better than ever. I'm sure you'll be happy.

I'd have a sit down with the manager and explain your concerns because Mazda's feedback system is overkill and inefficient... it only creates drama and soon they'll realize it.

Sweet! Another flooded thread. No, seriously, you really need to get a good explanation as to why they wont give you a loaner, especially if they are dragging thier feet with the repair. Once they told me that they shipped the parts to the wrong place, I would have demanded one and would not have left until they gave me one or the police escorted me out.

so... should i flood my car purposely to get a new starter? or is something like that already put in when I had my ball joint recall done a few months ago?

Thats a good question.. I have flooded mine 2wice and i dont think they put a new starter on mine.. Well they didnt tell me they did.. and then again my mazda place was shut down cuz the moron was telling people that he paid there trade in off and didnt so plus they were saying they were doing warrenty work but werent.. Anyone that has the info on the new starter would be nice!!!

Ok, well I got it back and I had a long talk with one of the managers and he sucked up nicely and that new starter is very nice.

Flood your car on the next trip to dealership for oil changes =D, park your car somewhere really close, go shopping, let it cool, drive there, shut it off lol

I don't believe the new starter was added to the "Engine cranks no start" (flooding) Service Bulletin until last November or December (someone correct me if I am wrong). Prior to that they only replaced the starter for cars that were repeatedly flooding. What you want to have installed is:

- Latest PCM update
- 640 CCA battery
- redesigned starter
- redesigned leading plugs

You still may want to fuss about no loaner car. As long as your car is under warranty, they should be giving you a loaner, or if non are available when you first drop your car off, the next available loaner.

They brag about the loaner program on the Mazda USA web site.

Unless you flooded or specifically asked for the new PCM update/battery/starter/plugs, they would NOT have done it as part of any other service. It is not a recall. In general, they have been treating it like most other Service Bulletins where they don't do the work unless you have the problem (ie you flood). However, dealers seem to be coming more flexible on this and many people who have simply asked, have gotten the new equipment.

Man, I'm thinking about going in to get this done. I've flooded a few times recently (not like that bad, just can't start the car, so I walk aways for about an hour, come back & it starts). Dealer said they need to get my vin #, to see if my car needs the new parts, and then they have to order it. but I'm a bit afraid in that my car has been umm..."slightly" modified.

I am gonna call the dealership here in a bit and find out if they will install this stuff for me... Should i use a pretty please or what should i say????? I think think flooding it twcie might consititute for this action.. I will let you guys know what he tells me..

Ok heres the skinny.. He said that they normally wont do it only if it was flooded and it had to be towed in they would replace all that stuff.. He told me he could work me in.. i told him that i had flooded my car 2wice before and it takes a couple cranks to start it.. And it has seemed my cracking gets slower every week listening to it.. but im sure ur dealership might work with you... U might have to flood it on purpose!!!

It is a known fact that the rotary CAN flood, so if changing out the plugs, battery, and starter is the "fix" that is being done in all new and flooded 8's then it is only fair and proactive that every older 8 get the same equipment. My car has never flooded, but there could always be the first time, and I surely want to have Mazda's "best" solution on my car to help pull it out of that flood.

So, with my dealer treating me great and fixing all of my issues so far on the first visit decides they can't do this without my car flooding, you can guess what I might be trying to do.

I agree with this but obviously Mazda does not want to unconditionally change out the starters and batteries on all cars manufactured between 5/2003 and 12/2004.

Let us hope that they will at least do it if you ask nicely.

Worry about yourself... I think we are all old enough to make our own decisions.. I havent been in this club long but long enough to know ur an idoit no edit this time!!!!!!

Mazda might not wanna do this but for the price you pay for this car.. I think it is owed to all of us to make this problem NOT a problem.. If they have to recall them all so be it.. Someone took a poll on here about how many have flooded the cars and almost half of us have done it.. Probably most cuz they didnt know.. My 1st time i didnt know. the second time i thought i had it on long enough... One less worry about my 8 the better!!
