Mazda might not wanna do this but for the price you pay for this car.. I think it is owed to all of us to make this problem NOT a problem.. If they have to recall them all so be it.. Someone took a poll on here about how many have flooded the cars and almost half of us have done it.. Probably most cuz they didnt know.. My 1st time i didnt know. the second time i thought i had it on long enough... One less worry about my 8 the better!!

Well, allow me to retort. As far as you calling me an "idiot", I'll simply chalk that up to you being a child, 'nuff said about that.
Now as far as your fraudulent venture with "purposely" flooding your vehicle to get free parts from Mazda goes, it is illegal. If you dont want my advice, so be it. Print out all the SBs and go for broke... pull the gromets out of your engine bay cover and get some free ones, take some sandpaper to your brake pads and claim they squeek to get some new ones. Dont stop and one count of fraud . Or you can intelligently realize that its not a problem for all the 8's so it doesnt require those parts to be replaced in all of them.
If you would like me to berate you and call you names as well, feel free to PM me, I will gladly treat you like the child you have proven yourself to be in private so as not to upset the audience.

PS: maybe while you are fraudulently having all you parts replaced you can show them this wonderful thread you started so you can have the rest of your warranty nixed.

You think Lexus or Toyota would drag their feet and make their customers jump through hoops on something like this?

Just like they underestimated the impact of the low HP and lost a ton of sales because the automatic was so underpowered. Like flooding, they have finally addressed it ... 18-24 months too late.

Yeah, the original starters are really weak and lethargic, the replacement is tenacious and a HUGE improvement over the original. I used to have to crank for a long time (4-5 seconds +) every now and again on the original starter, but now the longest I've had to crank is well under two seconds. Personally, I think this should at least be a repair available upon request, if not a recall.

There's no safety issue with this so there will never be a recall.
Recalls get big publicity and do more damage than pissing off some enthusiasts will.

LOL... I was going to take mine in and play the game of hard starts to get the flooding issue taken care of but the funniest thing happened the night before I was going to take it in. Here is a repost from another thread on this forum. It's a little long winded on the front end but it gets more interesting and on topic toward the end.
===========================================
The tire company that put my new tires on my car today had a $60 warranty program like Firestone’s. I decided to slip them 60 and get them to rotate every 3K for the life of the tires. I haven't done a close inspection with a microscope but the job looked to be satisfactory.
I was very **** about telling them everything they needed to do because I was leaving it over night for a morning installation, which included:
CAR:
Mount/balance of new OEM tires onto car.
EXTRA SET OF WHEELS for tracking, mount and balance:
- Mounting of two take-offs onto two used OEM wheels.
- Take off one tire from a third used OEM wheel and change directions so the full set of tracking wheels/tires was complete and accurately mounted.
As if this wasn't enough to tell them and pray it was properly done... I had to tell them the warm up procedure and hope they did it properly. Glassed over eyes and head bobbing up and down, he said he understood and repeated adequately my request. As I was walking out the door I decided to go back in and write it across the entire page of the write up so they could not miss it!
Yep! This afternoon when I went to pick my car up, it was still in the bay. The guy told me he was leaving it in the bay so car's would not open the doors up on it in the parking lot. I though that was very nice of them but suspected the worst when I realized it had been in that spot ALL DAY! So, I stuck the key in the ignition, squinted my eyes, turned the key and errrrrrrr, errrrrrrrr, errrrrrr. Gas to the floorboard... errrrrrr, errrrrr, errrrrr! Yep!
All said and done, I had to laugh. I went back into the office and proceeded to give them a piece of my mind (politely) and tell them how they screwed up. The guy in the shop eventually admitted he may not have let it warm up enough.
What made this so funny to me is that I was driving into the Mazda dealer tomorrow morning anyway to try to work out the flooding issue before it actually happened! Man, they made my job much easier.

SilverEIGHT:
Only goes to show that Mazda should be updating all early RX-8 to the new starter-battery BEFORE a flloding occurs like yours.
Mazda has been updating the ECU programming actively as car are being serviced. They should be doing the same with the starter-battery change. The issue will linger until a proactive program is put in place.

I have a new 2005 so I am hoping flooding isnt a huge problem for me...question I havent seen answered yet (yes I searched)
I know if you just go out start the car and move it and shut it down after a few minutes you are flirting with disaster...
BUT
Is that lets say I am driving around for a half hour, then park (at a store for instance) but then after leaving it for a few minutes or even right away move it for a short trip (less than 5 minutes) am I running the risk of flooding? The car is warm, its just been sitting for a few minutes?

Not "High Risk Behaviour" - Ha ! Ha !
Seriously with the updated battery-starter - the worse is perhaps a "couple of seconds" start - a flood is VERY unlikely in short moves in a warmed engine IMHO.

However, I agree that this is a defect that should be fixed in all 8s.

This was answered kinda in another one but.. If ur car is warm and u shut it off.. U can start it and turn it off you will be fine.. Someone please correct me if im wrong.. I just got some new wheels on my car. So he parked it and shut it off. I then asked him if the tpms light went out.. not thinking he was gonna start it again.. but he had too.. so he started it and the light went out and he shut it off prolly 3 seconds. i was like O ****.. but i remember reading that as long as the car is warm ur ok.. So my car did start with no problems. hope that helps!!

If it is before 3/22/2005 (when all 4 changes went into production) then no, you are not immune. After that you may still not be immune but no one has confirmed a flood on a car built after 3/22/2005 or a car updated with all 4 flooding changes.

So I have a build date of 12/04; by the list above that should mean I have everything except "Updated leader plugs". Just what is that? Sadly, I'm one of those born without the gene that provides instant insight into how to search. I tried "flooding plugs" and got over 200 threads it wanted me to look through. "leading plugs" yielded some 170. On the other hand, "flooding leading plugs" yielded zero. If someone can tell me what a successful search string might look like, that would be great. If someone would actually just tell me what these leading plugs are, that would be even better. Thanks!
