Many people have. Search the forums and you'll find thousands of flood threads including 05 floods. Its the same exact car with a newer key.

Maybe 100 or so- but 1,000s? Nowhere near.

I have an '05 and have never had any flooding issues. I've even shut it off a few times while not gettting up to temp and still it starts right up everytime. I think the flooding problem is the exception not the rule for 8's

I used "flooded 2005" as search parameters, and I came up with 13 threads. Not all of them had to do with flooding.

Thousands? Hundreds? Not quite. Do a search -- for every one RX-8 that actually flooded, there's like several dozen threads talking about it.

Question

I have a 05 with 9k miles and can not get it to flood. I have started it cold many times just to move it to mow the lawn. When you start any fuel injected car, do not press the accelerator when starting!!

Since all the 05's would have the latest flash
I would think that it would be less of a problem

I have 450 miles on mine and was just curious how
careful I need to be

The '05's would at least have the "M" flash which apparently make the car LESS PRONE to flooding. Flooding of '05's has been reported on this forum, so I don't think the latest flash, or probably any future flash, will make the car IMMUNE from flooding. Although flooding is not an exclusive "feature" of the rotary engine, the rotary engine is apparently more prone to it than boingers.

Just take the precautions as spelled out in the owners manual and on this forum and you should not have a flooding problem. Owners who ignore the precautions in the manual should keep the Mazda Roadside Service number handy.

Flooded an '05? I had my '04 for 6 months with no flooding issues. In fact, no issues at all.

First flood this morning, after 5000 miles and 10 months. Moved car from bottom of driveway into garage on Saturday. Could not get car started today, despite following "the procedure". Took truck to work. Will try to start it again tonight, but suspect a tow to Mazda is in order.

No 05's flooded or 04's since the lattest flash.

I have 5.4K miles on my 05 and I have had no issues...while I do follow the rules just in case.

Flooding is way OVERBLOWN!

The last trick...just in case because sometimes we have no choice, rev the engine to 3-3.5K and turn it off while it's revving. Per what I've been told on this website...that should clear out the rotary and gives you one last bit of protection.

THANK GOD....100% FLOOD FREE!!!

even on this forum i have noticed a drastic decline in 'my car's flooded!' posts the past 6 months to almost non-existent

mazda must be doing *something* right to address this little quirk of our car :o

So the procedure Mazda dispenses to start a flooded car doesn't work ?? That, to me, seems like a more serious problem than the flooding itself...

The procedure to start a flooded car is not a fix-all. Just something that may work, if the conditions are right. In the DIY there's a discussion about how to start a flooded engine, by putting washer fluid (or other things) into the manifold access ports. The idea being something that will bond with the gas, to give the oil and seals a chance to do their thing.

Maybe it was just one guy who flooded it over and over?

No flooding here after 6K miles despite numerous opportunities. Had one CEL the first week and zero problems since. And nary a rattle to be heard. Even the recall went smoothly (and they phoned later to see if I was satisfied with the service).

Is yours an 2005 or a 2004? Did you rev to 3-4K before shutting the car off in the garage? What was the ambient temperature? How long was the car running for the time that it took you to move it?

Just curious as to the circumstances.

personally i think i may have flooded mine once and it started back up without having to use any deflooding procedures. it just took A LOT of cranks to start up. this happened when i was about to make a left turn tho so it was a REALLY good thing it eventually started. thank god it was a very deserted street.

but i learned stick on this car and i didn't really pay attention to the dealer when he mentioned flooding to me. so i've stalled COUNTLESS times when the engine was cold and everytime (except for that one time) it started immediately back up again.

but i still rev the engine up if i shut down when the engine is cold tho. no sense in taking the risk.
